Go with the Bridgestone Potenza RE 750's. Much better quality and perfectly round compaed to the Michilens. Bridgestone has a 30 day return policy also. They are a much better traction tire than the PS2 anyway.

The RE750's aren't even in the same class as PS2's, furthermore they do not come in Porsche 911 Turbo Sizes either.

I've never had a problem with a PS2 being out of round in any size. Michelin uniformity is almost ALWAYS perfect. Also, nobody here has been notified of Michelin recalling an "entire production run" of PS2s for being bad. If there was a recall, I'd love for somebody to present me proof.

When installing any tire this size (from any mfgr.), it's VITAL to have them road-forced balanced with a Hunter GSP9700 and done by someone trained to use it.

As for the wheels, the lesson learned here is ALWAYS use an installer that uses touchless mounters and people trained properly to use them. I bet this shop's was a rim-clamp. I would confirm that before fighting it.
Ditto Damon's comment.........personally I've had good experience with PS2s in 19s and 18s....definately no out-of-round problems.

On the mounter, my advice would also be definately not let anyone touch custom wheels without experience w/same (and who also understands how expensive & important they are to you).

BTW.......anyone who thinks mounting 19" rubber on a reverse drop rim is similer to any other regular mount (or dismount) is wrong and is going to have problems (probably going to damage the rims also).

Sorry to hear about your problem. I'm surprised to hear this about Michelin, but unfortunately things like this do happen. It is dissapointing to hear it was not handled professionaly.

With regard to the PS2s themsevles, I have them now on several vehicles. They are hands down the best street tire you can run and that I have used. I've had just about everything out there and Michelin is typically superior in all around quality. The two worst brands are Pirelli in terms of build and Continental in terms of handling. I am so baffled by why Porsche and sometimes BMW use Continental as they are so drastically inferior to every other tire in their category.

I had pilot sports on my 02 996 and They were great tires, they wore well and were quiet, my 997 came with conti sport contact 2's and although i've heard bad things about them, i have found them to be excellent tires, they stick well in the corners and are very noise free, I don't think they are inferior any other tire out there. IMO, experience is the best teacher.

The 750 is a high performance summer tire, but not a MAX performance like the PS2. If you don't need a tire with the performance of the PS2, the 750 is great, and much less expensive. Not readily available in TT sizes, but are in other Porsche sizes. I sell them all the time for Boxters.

Have you driven the 997 with other tires?

Yes, drove a demo with pilots, couldn"t tell much difference.

The 996 and the 997 handle pretty much the same, although the 997's track is a little wider and the steering is a little quicker, the weight and power are about equal. thats been my experience.

I don't think Porsche would mount an inferior tire to any of their cars.
we are just talking about opinions here, related to our own experience. your experience may be much different than mine.

I thought that I was in the 996 forum...sorry about that. However, The RE-750 IMO is a far better tracion tire than the PS2 for the street. In hot or cold, wet or dry. I don't care what a tire is called, but my experience, head to head with ps2's on the same car confirms for me that I have the better traction. On my 2nd set now.

Judging from these picture they treated your $6,000 rims like a $90 tire job for four new tires on a Toyota using air powered tools. They should never be used on a wheel like that.

Man, I thought you meant the rim was chipped on the bead, not the bolt holes.

I'd be speaking to the shop manager, too.......
