SpeedTech Exhaust on a Tiptronic

SpeedTech Exhaust on a Tiptronic
Hey Guys,
I have been reading the forum for awhile and I have to admit there is a wealth of knowledge here. You guys have helped me out with codes p01128 & 1130, spark plug issues and other problems. I appreciate it.
I was wondering if any tiptronic owners with a SpeedTech 2.5 Quiet
X-cellerator or the the older 60mm OEM Style Quiet Sport Exhaust can share some sound clips.
I current have a 01 996 TT and I had the 70mm Hi-Flow Exhaust and while I love the sound above 3K rpms, I really would like an exhaust that would eliminate the drone between 2k-3k rpms.
I have removed the exhaust and went back to the stock version. Man but I miss that extra HP & tq.
By the way, the 70mm Hi-Flow Exhaust is for sale or trade for the Quiet version. Send me a PM if you are interested.
I have the following MODS:
1. UMW k16 Hybrid Turbo
2. 5 bar FPR
3. New Diverter Valves
4. SpeedTech 70mm Hi-flow (removed back to stock)

bocca,
Thanks for the response and I agree we all have drone at that rpm level, however it is all relative.
SpeedTech has those "quiet" exhaust with the Tiptronic in mind, therefore my I would like to hear the relative drone in that rpm level with those quiet exhausts.

Try PMing Danyol - I believe he has the 2.5 quiet with a tip...
Also, we have discontinued the 60mm quiet, as the X-cellerator 2.5 quiet is a much improved product with respect to the goal of a quiet, drone free exhaust. It also performs better with the 100 cell cats.
Our X-cellerator 2.5 quiet is virtually drone free. There is a tiny amount in a very small window, but it is so slight it has not been an issue for anyone yet. I think some of you guys would be really surprized to witness the mix this system offers...how comfortable the 2.5 is to live with on a daily basis, yet how fantastic it sounds at all times, especially under WOT. It truly is a perfect daily driver exhaust.

My 70, is the older design with the dual cans. I LOVE the power that this system gave me especially at WOT, however the only reason that I want to change the exhaust is exactly what John stated above regarding it being vitually drone free on a Tiptronic.

Hey John,
Thanks for the info and MAN do you make me want to get that new exhaust. I know that is going to be well built based on your older exhaust.
I am just being greedy/selfish in my desires to have all the power and none (very little) of the drone... that would be Tiptronic heaven for me. lol

The 70mm not a cross-flow design. It is a twin can, 200 cell system.
The cross-flow comes with 100 cell cats which improve flow for better throttle response and quicker turbo spool. It is available in either a 63.5mm quiet or 76mm loud version and both models exhibit the very appealing GT3-like sound.

I originally designed this 2.5 quiet cross-flow for myself because I had the same goals as you with respect to sound and performance. I am ecstatic with the results of this system and I think you would be too. It is totally different than the 70mm twin can system and IMHO, the comfort/GT3-like sound combination of the X-cellerator cross-flow will blow you away with complete satisfaction.

Hey John,
What I am concerned with mostly is slow city type driving with the tiptronic. With the tip in "auto" it tries to get to 4th gear as soon as it can by shifting early at or below 2K rpms or so.
With the stock exhaust, I hardly notice the sound of the shifts or any drone (very little) basically non-intrusive.
If you can, would you please compare the X-cellerator 2.5 quiet to the stock exhaust, how close would you say the sound is just cruising around in the city?
By the way, I did visit your website and I viewed the sounds clips, however, I think that was on a manual car.

Hi Carl,
It has been a while since I used a stock exhaust. The 2.5 is louder than stock, but it does not have the drone normally associated with aftermarket exhausts and is not really that loud. It's on the quiet side, but certainly louder than stock. Also, it's a lot quieter than the twin cannister, 70mm version you currently have. Hopefully, a tiptronic owner with a 2.5 quiet will come forward and share his thoughts with you. I know the 3.0 is not a good choice for a tip, but I have been told by tip owners that the 2.5 is a very good match-up...I just can't remember who has the 2.5 on a tiptronic. Try a PM to YZWilly. He may have a tip.
