My youngest son is a Sr. in high school. He is already signed up in the Army and is doing his National Guard duty 1nc a month. He is qualified for Officers School and to fly Hellicopters. He'll head off to boot camp in June, then a few months in Little Rock, Ar. then ROTC at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, and lastly to Officers School.
I'm very proud of him. He has had a job since he was 16.* He has made some good decisions and has a planned set of goals for at lease the next 6 years. For 18 that is pretty good in my book.
He was told a few days before his SR. Prom by his date that she had to go out of town for a family emergency. So he was left to ride as a 3rd leg w/ his best friend and his BF girlfriend.
I had been thinking about this for a few days. So when they all 3 came by the house for us to get some pics I decided to let him drive the 911 X50 to Prom.
His best friend talked his girlfriend into riding in the back seat so they all 3 could go. I can't think of something going wrong, it makes me sick to my stomach. But what good is having really cool and nice things if you can't share them w/ your loved 1s?
Anyway I'm doing my best to not think about it and act like it is nice and safe in the garage. But as I'm typing this out my son's friend calls... My stomach drops!
They want to know how to put CDs in the exchanger.
I hope this turns out ok and he has the time of his life. Plus it might inspire him to strive to get his own Super Car, I hope it does!

I took it my Z06 up to John Caravaggio who cuts the top off, and installs the OEM vert top.
Great guy.

jjbravo, that is awesome. Thanks for the compliment. You're probably right and I'm glad I glad I did it.
Dr._Jitsu, that would mean he would never get 1. He wants to fly helicopters. First the Army, then maybe CIA or FBI, or Medivac.

jjbravo, congrats on a great pic of your son! Tell him we are proud of him as well and thankful for his service.
secretvampire, My son is a solid 6' 3 1/2, his friend is taller. There won't be room in that back seat for any1 else but her.
Dr_jitsu, that is fare enough. But you would know he did when he gets the Porsche.
If everything goes right he'll be home w/ in the hr. Back to watching TV.

They made it home a few minutes late but everything seems to be fine. I'll check the car out tomorrow. They seemed to have had a great time and that is what I was hoping for. It is a great feeling to be a dad and get to do stuff unexpected and great for your kids. I hope he does the same kind of things for his kids and remembers times like these as the reason.

When my son was in the 7th grade he wanted to go to the USAFA and become a fighter pilot. He was just an ordinary kid with an ordinary father that had an unrelenting interest in his son's life. After years and years of prayers, setbacks, rewards, hard work, and encouragement he did just that - 15 years later with almost 2,000 flight hours he is now flying F-15E's for the Air Force - he is on cloud 9 (literally!) and I am completely jealous!
But along the way there were some very serious crossroads that would have lead elsewhere - away from his dream - and I had to put my disappointment aside and step up to let him know that no matter where he ended up I would be very proud of him. There is some truth to the following quote because over the years I've seen some of my son's friends fall by the wayside: "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." John Calvin Coolidge
