holy bad tank of gas

It's been a bad week.

I had so much fun at Long Beach Grand Prix (at least just getting there in a caravan).

I used the whole tank of gas in one day and filled it up at a gas station where I usually go to fill up.

Then the horror started.

Something wasn't right. I could hear knocking noises and the car felt crude when idling and hesitated to rev even on boost.

I was cursing at myself for running the car too hard that weekend and was feeling the impending doom of Porsche labor.

I was going to take the car to the dealer on Monday so I decided to take it around for a spin to see if it's still there this afternoon.

Yup, it was still there and it felt like something's wrong. It was low on gas so I took it to a different gas station mainly because it was closer to where I am.

When I was filling gas, some fella approached me asking for some gas money so I spared him ten bucks. Finished filling up and left the gas station and voila, it was gone.

I don't know. Maybe the guy was Jesus himself or some saint preaching good karma but the car feels strong and normal again.

I think the gas I filled before was a bad batch or something because I've never had this problem with that gas station but I don't think I'll be filling up there anymore.

I'm just glad that it's gone!

Had the same basic thing happen today. Car was running like dirt. Ran out of gas, put a fresh tank in, and VOILA. Whole different animal. Interesting.

Happens much more often then you know.. We see it all the time here when we dyno cars and the car isnt taking any boost or timing as normal.. Struggling to make the same HP as all the setups we have done previous that are the same.. drain fuel and refill and voila HP is back..

Part of the reason why it is dangerous to push a car on Pump gas to the limit.. a bad tank of fuel and good bye.. Regardless if the Ecu can correct or not its going to do some damage..

I always put a couple of gallons of 100 with every batch of 91 for that reason. I also go to the busiest shell station I know. Never had a problem yet.
