GT2 Slave Delete and Power Steering Whine

I had the GT2 slave delete installed and immediately noticed a whine (at the shop) that sounds like the Power Steering whine. The mechanic checked the fluid level and it was too high, so he took some out (several ounces). The whine did not go away, immediately, but then disappeared pretty quickly thereafter when the weather got cold. Now it's warm again and the whine is back.

A few questions:

1.) Is this the famous and expensive power steering pump whine (TSB #4897)? Or could it be the alternative Belt Idle Roller?

2.) If the pump, is it coincidence that the problem started at the same time as the GT2 slave delete (which ran of the PS pump) or are they related in a way that is meaningful?

3.) If it is the pump and the solution is replacement, is it just the reservior (and the offending pressure control valve) or the whole pump that needs replacing?

Any help here that could save me $$ would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If it is the pump then you have to change the reservoir as well because the part number is now a 997 number and the reservoir that goes with it is also a 997 number. The 996 reservoir is not compatible. The power steering pump makes a high pitched whine.

The pulley tensioner noise is a different whining sound that is rpm related. You can only really tell which is which by removing the air box and listening closer because the pulley is right beneath the power steering pump and one disguises the sound of the other. Make sure you or your tech diagnoses the problem thoroughly before you change anything. The tensioner is $147, the pump and reservoir is around $1400, so take your time finding the real problem. Good luck.

Good question on the removal of the coupler, but I do not know the answer. I can ask them, but how hard is it to check myself? I am pretty mechanically oriented. Any DIY instructions posted anywhere?

removing the coupler is a big job, they certainly remember if they did it, they need to take apart half of the accessories on the engine...

Biggest reason would be to get rid of the Pentosin. I had a low pressure line leak when the car sat for couple weeks. Out at the track this past Saturday look at the blown hose, located under the power steering reservoir. it was coated with Pentosin which ate into the rubber causing it to blow. The tow was more expensive than the hose and antifreeze.

No there is an alternate method that involves using the 993 GT2 slave, 993 fork (mirror reverse of the 996 fork) and tapping the trans. case to mount the slave (the mounting points are there, just not tapped). We just capped the PS pump - no disassembly or modification. It's been 4 years and over 50,000 miles with no issues. That's how I had it done before the EVO kit was out and how Porsche did it in previous generations of the 911. It is done with all Porsche OEM parts - the parts are only about $600, but the transmission must be out to do it this way. Also, we sell the EVO kit if you are looking for one...

You can still buy the GT2 and TIP (no manual clutch) power-steering pump and it's $370, the TT version is 450-ish. However the tank is expensive when you have to change that.

When you did the conversion, what clutch slave pressure supply line did you use?
