Changing the battery on a 996 TT

Is it true that if you swap out the battery on our cars that you have to keep the leads in contact with another vehicle or a charger?

A boxster owner I was chatting with said that he made the mistake of NOT doing that when switching his battery and had to pay Porsche $300+ to "reprogram" his ecu

Nope. If you have an 01 or 02, you MIGHT have to reprogram the radio code. 03 and newer you don't have to do anything.

^^ correct. I can say first hand I had a fully dead battery, pulled with no leads and never had an issue from the car having no battery on it for the duration of the change or the dead battery from the winter. I have an '03 996tt so take it for what it is

cool, mines an 03 too. I already swapped the battery - but I did keep it hooked up to a friends car during the process just to be safe. I thought this sounded like a bunch of bs though so I had to ask.

Apparently my battery did not like my valentine one plugged in (stays on all the time) and the car not being driven for 5 days. D'oh!
