Checking it ain't cheap. But it's cheaper than repairing it.

I bought this car to have a bulletproof supercar with manageable running costs.....

aka T2's car.

What is the ballpark in hours to do this check...I am braced and ready for it.

SweeeTT is infamous around these parts
I was told that my lifters failed on my engine, with just under 40K on it, stock. This apparently caused a drop in oil pressure on that bank... end result - new engine (under after market warranty!). When they disassembled the engine, they found that 2 of the lifters on the other side were doing the same thing. Kevin at UMW told me he had seen this before - maybe a bad batch of lifters? Mine is an 01.

It has EVERYTHING to do with RPM. These lifters are too heavy and arent meant to run crazy rpms for extended periods..... I busted three of them last winter.

Good thought, Kevin. My car has had a significantly raised redline for a quite a while.

Scott, you know the money and hardware I put into my engine for high rpms. I have enough direct evidence and anecdotal evidence that high rpm is the cause of my lifter failures that I capped my RPM everywhere outside of Goliad at 7400.... Even at Goliad I bought taller tires that 215 was only 7400-7500 rpms just to avoid getting too high in the rev range....

Scott, glad to hear you know what the issue is. But I have to ask - why spend the money replacing the liners, rods, etc. when all is good? I know the heads are off, but man...not sure I would open it up any further. But like we talked about, if you go through with all this, make sure they are using a killer machine shop, that someone from TPC triple checks clearances, blueprints everything, etc.

Can't wait to hear when it's back together!

Jamie,

For a couple reasons. First, I can't imagine going this far, with the motor already out of the car, and not going that final step and installing the rods and liners to make the engine more durable. IMO, it would be absolutely crazy to NOT keep going at this point.

Second, I already purchased the rods and liners. That's money that I simply don't want wasted.

I'll let you know how it goes, bro. Thanks.

Scott it's good to see that they figured out what is wrong.

I'm interested to see what mine look like when I finally do pull out the motor. I've been winging mine to 7800 for awhile now. No signs of any problems in the logs, etc.. Only bad thing lately has been a bad tank of gas

I can't wait to see how your car does after the built motor!

Is it possible to check them by only taking off the head covers without pulling out the engine?

Does them produce any strange noise while engine is running? I don't know, maybe an unusual "ticking or knocking noise"...

BTW it should be interesting to know if this issue is due to bad factory assembly process or out of spec parts...
