Scott,

+rep, This thread saved my heads and probly my motor. As you know from the other thread, my '01 turbo is at Todds/Protomotive getting a build, as the took the heads apart, the lifter literally fell apart in his hands. This thread gave me the heads up on this issue and was one of the deciding factors in getting the build done.

Beer is on me whenever we are in the same place (and not in a GO1 area ;-)

Btw, here are the replacement part numbers;
99610504173 Exhaust Lifter, about $650-700
99610525525 Intake Lifters, about $1350-1400

So, in summary; I replaced all of the intake lifters, installed new Pauter rods...and that's it. The most simple engine build ever.
did you ever get the P1145/P1155 CEL? I understand that this can be a bad O2 sensor - but also a sign of low valve lift?

anybody know?

Question, I know someone asked this before, but I haven't seen the response yet, was this an audible noise that you noticed? I noticed when I first start my car that there's a constant loud ticking noise, about the rate of 2x per second. It goes away when I rev it or once the engine warms up a little. However, I can't help being paranoid about it being a valve lifter. I had that issue w/ my BMW when they kept telling me it was the fuel injection, and then I proved them wrong when the lifter went.

Sorry for the newbie question... If your motor is out already how hard is this to inspect / replace if need be? Full tear down? 4hrs? 14?

Thanks,
Henry

You should contact member Winnigt2, he's doing this and apparently 16 hours of labor are needed, plus about 1500€ for new lifters..

Ah, I'm hoping that's for the labor to remove the engine as well

Mine was already on a stand getting the water pipe fittings welded so Ivan @ IMA Motorsports is going to inspect them and let me know how everything looks. (They found a few flakes in the oil and I'm as paranoid as they come )

Wish me luck

I'm surprised that nobody talks about the cam bearing housing.. Do you remember Porschedoc thread about the crack housing and the damage (disappearance) of a metal seal? A good inspection in this area is a must I think while you are in there

Yep. Ivan told me he was going to inspect that as well. I need to stop reading these threads, the Rennlist one is going to depress me for days...

Edit: Ivan gave it the all clear. Huge relief. :-)
