accumulator fail question:

Hi All, I have the symptom of failing accumulator (stiff clutch pedal after car sits, even for a short while now). I also have the light squeal associated with ther power steering resevoir...

My question is whether this is a problem that can lead to total clutch fail and a tow job, or if it just gets stiffer and stiffer, but stays driveable....i.e. when should i deal with it, and when do I "have to" thanks all - Jim

The clutch just gets stiffer and stiffer as there is no longer any assist. I've been driving my X50 this way since I bought it a year and 12K miles ago. There is really no additional wear to the car, its just a big pain in the *** to push down the pedal after its been sitting a week.

I was under the impression that eventually this would cause the slave cylinder to fail?

often times the clutch slave will fail soon after the accumulator. when this happens the clutch engagement will be irradic, followed by overflow of fluid from the resevior (flamable and stainable). i would get both replaced sooner rather than later- make sure it's a new clutch slave that is used (2008 on)

OCTurbo is correct. And I can't say it enough, take a look at the GT@ conversion while you are at it. If you do it, I promise you it will be one of those "V8 moments."
