Ideas for mesh for turbo bumper?

I want to replace the grills on my turbo bumper with mesh. I've seem Kevin M's solution, but it's not what I had in mind. I believe Don (florida) and Goodwood (his old white turbo) had something more like I'd want to emulate.

Rather than paying a tuner's big bucks for their version of it, anybody come up with another solution?

grill

I used a place in Chicago - they chromed the grills. Pictures don't do them justice. If you like I'll get the contact info

You can buy a sheet from us for $50 (enough to do the whole front bumper and more). Have it painted/powdercoated the color of your choice, then cut it to size and attach it to the bumper using an automotive adhesive... Even if you have a body shop do all this (paint/cut/install) it should be no more than $100!!!
Here is photos of the mesh on my car (I did the above):

You can buy Evan's mesh at the local pep boys/discount auto parts stores. I used it to make custom grills for the oil cooler on my race bike.

I have seen the stuff in Pepboys and it is not as thick and strong as the mesh we have... The only thing that has been able to penetrate my mesh as a metal block (don't know exactly what it was) at 90MPH on the highway. Besides that, I have had many things hit it and it doesn't even bend...
Either way, I can't justify 1000 for the above mesh. Though very nice, its just too much for me...

I don't know. Looks exactly like the mesh I used on my bike. Maybe there are different variations at different retail stores. I paid $30 for a big sheet. It's made of aluminum. You can get it anodized too. It's pretty thick, but pliable enough to shape it. Even if it were to bend, you can bend it right back. Haven't had that problem yet on my bike. Maybe we don't have large amounts of flying debris in Tampa that you have in S. Fl

You may be right, I am sure your store has different stuff than mine . Either way, ours retails at around 45 and I sell it for less so its not much difference. Trust me I am not trying to get business, $45 is not worth pushing for . If you can find good mesh local go right ahead (hey its what I would do ).

can anyone expand on how to install the mesh grill? what steps to remove the original grill, and how to glue or place the new mesh onto the bumper, and any suggestions to what type of paint to put on before install? TC

I like to use the stainless steel racing mesh. It is not quite as flexible as aluminum but extremely strong and does not rust. For a real racing type instal i typically would instal it from the inside and fasten it through the bumper with stainless 1/4-20 button head fasteners, washers and stainless washers and nuts in the rear. Doing it that way is attractive, functional, strong and serviceable if neccesary. If you do NOT want fasteners through the bumper, i like to make a frame for the mesh from the rear with stainless rod and fiberglass the mesh/frame to the inside of the bumper. You can purchase different stainless mesh sizes depending on do you want larger or smaller holes, from Pegasus Racing supplies.

Yep - they did the grill and chromed. Loads of hard driving, lots of track rubber, road garbage - and cleans up like new.
