Did you tighten the bolts in a star pattern as you would a wheel lug? If not, that is probably why they came loose. 60ft/lbs is the correct torque for the bolts.

Hi JP, hope you are well.

Just a quick question on a different topic, are you still 4 wheel drive. I ask because your rear shaft issue is an excellent way of showing just how poor the 4 x 4 system is on the 996tt. It takes just one wheel to loose traction ( ok in this case a shaft but same outcome) and no drive from the front wheels. If your still 4x4 it interesting to know the extent of drive loss to the front with loss to the rear.

Glad your ride is fixed,
Frank.

Star pattern was used and I progressively increase the torque. Thanks for the reply because I am trying to get a GT-3 manual to found what torque they are using for this coupling....

Yes Frank I'm still 4 X 4 and without this shaft connected I was not able to move. Just about very slow walking speed.... Strange because in reverse I had a little bit more efficiency. It was a really strange feeling

Cheers mate, thats what I thought. I would imagine that a single wheel high power spin ( no lsd) would have similar effects. ie little drive to the front. Makes me think about all the posts about removing the front drive.
Sorry about jacking the post.
Frank.

post reminds me, had this happen on my s2000. diff had been out on several occasions. it was scary, lifted the car up and saw that all the bolts had backed out, loose by hand. didn't do the work myself that time, so not sure if install error was the cause. but believe it's recommened by the factory (my tuner also recommeneded) to change bolts to new units which I promptly did. didn't have issues after that.

be interested to know if this is also the case for 996tt. A lot more power, I'm sure they'd just snap under similar circumstances.

frank - if i change to RWD, this will be your fault!

After reading all of this, I immediately went to the garage and made sure that my adjustable torque wrench was dialed back to zero! Glad that everything turned out OK, and thanks for spreading a little wake up call.
