Any common problems with 2001 Porsche 911 turbo?

Hi I'm looking to buy a 2001 porsche 911 turbo, and just curious if anyone know of any common problems with the car and also if there's anything I should know and look for before going to test drive the car?

Thanks so much....

^^ I agree. If it looks like it was taken care of you should be fine. 2nd gear popout is an issue, but its not just related to the 2001.. it affected other yrs as well. Go for it, some good prices out there on an '01.

Besides the regular stuff, (maint.,paint, etc...) no major issues just coolant expansion tanks sometimes leak and check the spolier rams for leakage.

The rear spoiler hydraulic assemblies are known to fail, but there are quite a few DIY fixes for these to keep them alive. Watch for second gear pop-out on deceleration (this can be hard to catch on a test drive), and certainly pay the money to have a proper PPI performed on any car you're very serious about. My own 2001 has been treating me well over the past 15 months, but I did fall into the rear spoiler failure group early on in my ownership. Best wishes!

As others said, there is a HUGE 2nd gear pop out issue. (It tends to happen when your foot is off the gas, off the clutch and hand off the shifter, and you are on a slight grade downwards) The rear spoiler hydraulic rams fail, the coolant expansion tanks split at the seams and need to be replaced eventually also.

PPI = pre purchase inspection. Have a reputable shop in your area do it for you, preferably one that has no affiliation with the seller or car you are looking at. Shouldn't cost you more than a few hundo, $ well spent. GL.

Sorry, now I find myself falling into the same acronym trap that I've seen others do when I was newer to the site. As it was mentioned after my post, the PPI is a pre-purchase inspection of your vehicle. This can be worth it's weight in gold and, may also be used as a bargaining tool if small non deal breaker types of issues are spotted. Best wishes!

besides the fact that a 2001 model is almost ten years old now...

why not get a newer model?

@ Killer911,

Due to the cost of 996, is the reason I'm considering the 996, therefore having less room to depreciate....
That's my determination, don't know if I'm correct, but please correct me if I'm wrong....
What is your thoought on the price matter?

THANKS ALL FOR YOUR PROMPT REPLIES, REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE IT, YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!

Having owned one for over three years and 64000 km, the main problem is nothing goes wrong with them.

i am not a big fan of buying a first year production car!

usually it takes a manufacturer a year or two to get out all the kinks...

why not look for a 2002 or a 2003?

if you look hard enough, i am sure you can find one in your price range?

how much are you looking to spend?
