About to install new battery

My OEM battery is dying so I bought a new Sears Diehard to install. What do I need to do to make sure the electronic stuff (radio code and whatever else) do not get messed up when I disconnect the old battery? I have the Porsche trickle charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter. If I keep that plugged in during the battery change would that do it? Or should I connect a spare battery via jumper cables to the positive +/- terminals in the engine compartment to maintain some juice flowing to the car? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Left the tricker charger plugged in and installed the new battery. Piece of cake! Didn't have to reset radio code or anything. Thanks.

Sorry I saw this too late to help. That is exactly what I did and no problems a t'all. I also went with the Sears as I needed something that had staying power in the garage.

However you can buy an inexpensive intelligent trickle charger that connects to the battery terminals and run a lighter battery if you wish.

Interestingly when I bought the Diehard at Sears they had the "Porsche Twin Turbo" in their battery replacment book!

Nope - just dealt w/ this on my 2002 today. (if you're just talking about having to have the code to get the radio to work afer you disconnect battery).
