intermediate shaft noise - What the hell?
mine is quiet upon start up or a medium run but if I have an sluggish bumper to bumper traffic run I can hear the damn chain upon arrival... I undertsnad these cars are meant to run but sometimes its just impossible :/
On the same token, last month, my BW SA showed me a 996 Turbo on a lift getting the IMS replaced because "it was very loud."
/m
So kidding. These cars meant to be driven, hard!!! Moving it to and from won't damage anything.
I know this thread has reassured me that having an engine that sounds like its gonna blow up and a can of metal marbles is normal for a porsche. Thats pretty funny.
Like Ari said, these cars are meant to be driven and driven hard. My observations support this theory.
I had the same problem and HATE it. had the engine opened up twice and replaced the IMS. It fixed the problem for 600 miles and now the sound is back. Putting on a Europipe exhaust made the noise sound even worse when at idle or under 2k. sounds like the car is going to break any second. If there was a permanent fix, I would do it in a second.
Yeh... Next you try Light weight flywheel. It will double all sound you got.

Bah at least i can tell people its because of the Flywheel and not explain how "its completely normal to have IMS failure and the potential causes of it and......... yes i assure you its normal i even made a thread on 6 speed about it."
