I am considering an aftermarket warranty. Opinions?
Looks like a clean car. Nice pics. Not sure if that is just in the picture, but it looks like a fairly long scratch at the top of the bumper just to the left and bellow the Porsche crest on the front trunk. Can that be buffed out or will you have to paint? Congrats on the ride.....

Very good eye. That has been repaired. It was the reason I had to wait an extra day to take delivery of the car last week.

I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but if I had $5k to spend on my car how would you spend it? I already have an Evo airbox.

Warranty? Suspension? Exhaust? Flash (w or w/o diverter valve)? Rims? Clear Bra? Planned MNTC? Rainy day fund? iPod adapter? Nav? Satellite radio? Aluminum Pedals? Gbox mod? Bumper plug items? GT Key Fob? Alcantara steering wheel? Radar Detector? Turbos? GT2 bumper? Matte Wrap? SSK? GT3 brakes and rotors?

Specifics please. If you want to sell me something, feel free to PM me with offers I can't refuse.

Flash (EPL), Suspension (Bilstein PSS9/PSS10) and a Exhaust (911Tuning or RPi).

Has my car been flashed? How can I tell?
I have no records about a possible flash or even the EVO airbox that is installed.
I noticed this morning that the gauge is showing 1.0 bar under hard acceleration.
I took the car to Roger Beasley last Saturday to clear a check engine light and the tech asked if the ECU has been changed due to a overboost code he detected and cleared.
This is bitter sweet if true because it means I have the extra boost without having to pay for it, but it also means I can't get another 80 bhp on the cheap.

That depends on what you want out of your new car. Do you want it to be a highway killer or a course rat? Sounds like you have a flash of some sort. 1.0 bar is not stock.

Dodging Bullets

The turbo made a trip to the dealership on a flatbed today.

Got a coolant loss light. I pulled over right away with steam pouring from the engine.

Just learned a coolant hose split. So for the price of a tow, a hose, coolant and a couple hours of labor ... I'll be back in business tomorrow.

When does this fear of catastrophic failure go away?

Bummer. That's the down side of buying a low mileage car. Now I am not saying that that is the reason this happened, could be anything including a fluke, BUT cars that don't get driven...well, they sit. ...and when they sit, things dry out like seals, gaskets, hoses, etc...That's why when I was shopping, I was looking for something in the 40k-50k mile range. Maybe have them look it all over and try to find anything else they think looks suspicious, with your approval of course...don't want to give them a blank check!!!

You are right about that... I only put about 1K per year and seem to loose a hose every now and then. The most recent failure was that pesky fuel pump... Hate to say it but if it's not been replaced with the plastic hose model it will leave you sitting on the side of the road some day soon... It really sucks sitting in such a nice car broke down..

My first month of ownership has been an emotional roller coaster. My ear to ear grin has been equally matched by my vomit inducing fear of catastrophic failure. I have silently questioned whether I had the intestinal fortitude to own such a contraption.

In one month the car has been to the dealer twice, once on a flatbed. Neither were serious, though I did pay $480 to replace a $40 hose. The front tires have worn unevenly (down the center) and even though there are 5/32nds remaining, I should replace them soon. No alignment issue, just improper inflation.

I seriously considered trading the car for an '05 997s today. I drove the 997 for about an hour to see if I would be satisfied by car. In the end, it would have been a decent substitute but it just didn't have that Je ne c'est qua of the turbo.

In the end, I love the turbo. I just needed to go through the process and make peace with my feelings. I have covered 2000 miles already and now know I couldn't be satisfied with anything else. That is why I searched for so long to find the perfect one in the first place!

Instead of trading for another car, I purchased an aftermarket warranty. My peace of mind alone is worth the purchase. Maybe I'll be able to let go of the fear and just enjoy the car as it was meant to be.

On a lighter, my only disappointment is that I haven't been hit on by any of the ladies. I have noticed some glances, but nothing like my buddy's claims of phone numbers being left under the wiper blade of his R8

Very true. To 90% of the people on the road, your turbo may as well be a cayman. I went further to shy away from the attention and debadged the "turbo" script from the rear.

If you want cheap attention trade it in for a Lotus or Maserati.

I prefer the anonymity of the turbo. I was making the joke only. I love the understated beauty of the turbo. Those who know ... know.

However, I did expect at least one woman of low self esteem and lacking a moral compass to at least make a pass at me.

Not that I would do anything about it. This tiger was declawed long ago!
