PPI in San Diego

I am in need of a good independant shop to do a PPI in San Diego. The car has been serviced at the local Porsche shop, but I want a fresh eye to look at the car. Any body have a shop they would recommend?

whatever you do - avoid Black forest. I took my car there to look into 2 problems a cpl years ago.

1. suspension noise
2. parking bulb out.

After 2 hours of diagnostics I received the following answers.

1. suspension is okay
2. complex wiring problem that keeps the bulb from illuminating. It would take several more hrs of dx's to determine the cause.

Now, I know what my suspension sounds like and KNEW something was loose, after paying, i walked out to the shop , saw my car in the air and casually looked under the car. It took me exactly 15 secs to see the drop link bolt was loose. I called the mechanic over, pointed it out (he said oh gee!) and asked me WHAT SIZE bolt it was!!!

wow.

I only learned last week that my "complex wiring issue" was none other THAN A BURNED OUT BULB!!

REALLY GUYS????

So yeah, avoid Black forest...

I spoke with Steve at Dieter's Independent Porsche. He quoted about $425 for the ppi. Very nice guy. He kept telling me how expensive this car is to own. I told him I was looking for a 996TT or a 993. He said the 993 is CHEAP to maintain compaired to the 996TT. In his opinion, the main problem is that many 996TT were leased and abused. He told me that I could do a ppi with a compression test for an additional $675. $1,100 for the complete ppi. Is it worth it?

I've heard questionable comments re: Deiter's. From what I understand they specialize in the older cars. 3.2s, SCs etc.

I've never used them, but the most favorable comments re: independents Porsche mechanics down here I've heard are re; All German Auto.

Anybody ever use them?

Hey,
I have used them for some work on my M3 and simple stuff on the Porsche. They are generally very good and reasonable.

If you are in the neighborhood, let me know I will stop by the shop and we can meet up.

anikzad-
I'm 1200 miles away. That's why I'm asking. I need a prebuy inspection done remotely. I hate to buy a car site unseen, but hopefully the pics aren't photoshopped. Thanks though.

Hey, where in SD is the car located?

I can check it out for you (cosmetically etc) before you spend the $$$ on the PPI.

Same Here, if in North County or by Mira Mar, I can stop by too. Is this a stock or modified car? By any chance, are you dealing with Jake's Motorcars?

I recommend doing the CPO inspection checklist with a dump of the DME. If the overrevs are totally clean, and everything else looks clean, you might consider NOT doing the compression.. (If you DO do the compression, have them replace the plugs at no added labor charge, $50 for the 6 plugs).

All German is well known in the BMW community, and respected. Especially M5s.

I'd second All German Auto - they do quite a bit of work on Porsches besides other German makes.

I had them do all the upgrades on my 996 TT and was very satisfied.

As for the other two local independent shops - there's some debate as to their competancy / ethics.
