Want to get after market navigation

I want to get an aftermarket navigation system for my 2001 996TT. The car didn't come with factory nav. Anyone has any good system to recommend like Kenwood or Alpine? Is it going to be plug and play easy install? If I installed the nav, then my cup holders gone too?

I went with Pioneer Avic z110bt. Could not be happier. I have an 01 and it was straight forward to install using factory amp, speakers, etc (pre MOST). I was not aware that the 01's had cup holders.

I had a eclipse in my turbo and didn't have any complaints other than I wish I bought a NAV unit with a dial (for volume) instead of buttons. It's kind of hard steering, shifting and changing the volume.

I'm having a unit installed today, a Kenwood.

Picked it b/c it has a volume ****, and apparently garmin is the most frequently updated of the aftermarket NAV units therefore the best for this purpose.

I have a Kenwood DNX8120 and am fairly happy with it. Besides the Garmin NAV system, it also plays DVD movies, iPod (both audio and video) as well as music files off of USB stick.

I used the Alpine unit and I really liked the quality of sound and video as well as the direct iPod control was way better then what Pioneer offered at that time (2 years ago).

Now I moved on to a Pioneer Avic Z120BT. I love this unit. It is fast, reverse camera loads instantly. Navi is fast, better looking then Alpine. Browsing iPod is much nicer and more intuative, easier to find things. It also has an SD slot that can hold a 16gb or 32gb card with songs and videos. I also like the equalizer better in the new Pioneer, Pandora link is another neat feature to work with the iPhone.

Overall I have no complaints about the Z120bt, besides the price tag is a bit steep.

Your interior looks great! BTW, I thought the cupholders were between your Nav and A/C vents. I thought you push in on that piece and then they spring out. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but that's what I had thought anyway Maybe that's the '02's and up?

I also went with the Pioneer Z120 bt. Its features are well listed above, but no one mentioned that it also does voice control. Originally I thought that just applied to the phone interface, but you can do almost everything using voice commands. It looks like OEM and produces great music. I hooked mine up to Sirius SAT radio for crystal clear music. My 01 TT came with NAV so I had to bypass the amp to make it all work, but even without the amp, the internal amplifier in the Pioneer is better than the OEM system.

I've been looking at the Pioneer Avic Z120BT vs Kenwood 9960. One installer strongly preferred the Kenwood due to improved reliability and better warranty. Aside from that I think the overall sense is that Pioneer has better ipod controls and the Kenwood has better nav.
