Radar detectors

There are no radar speed cameras in California.

But it looks like they could be coming back 2010-2011.
Last ticket was a week before I bought the V1. Once you drive with one you will wonder how you could have been so stupid and defenseless....the degree to which they neutralize police radar is really amazing.
I am hopeful that public pressure will prevent them from spreading... there is something about photo enforcement that the public, by and large, finds 'unfair' and intrusive. While they try and 'sell' it based on 'public safety', they need to be careful, Enforceing red light running seems to be OK with the public- afterall most drivers think "I don't do that"... so they support it. But grandmas getting cites for running with the traffic and the whole traffic court fleece/scam may come to a halt....
(I just got done beating two tickets- one to trial, listening to many cases- so I am very disgusted with the whole process.... 2 for 2 though.

They are illegal here, thats why I have the Bel STI, completely undetectable. I didn't think they were illegal in CA too?
I plan to get a V1 soon, because I need a window mount to move it back & forth between cars. What really hacks me is that all this noise about traffic safety is BS - this is all about REVENUE. Most of our local governments in Kansas have it set up that you can "amend" your moving violation to a non-moving violation by merely paying DOUBLE the fine. [in some jurisdictions it's a flat $200 in addition to the fine] Pay the man and walk. They limit the number of times that you can do this within a 12 month period, but it illustrates that the local county/city goverments have ramped up their vehicle citations to boost revenue. Kansas just raised their state sales tax a full percentage point because they can't control government spending.
If you ever drive through Prairie Village, KS (suburban KC) watch out - my son got a ticket for doing 38 in a 35 mph zone.

Having done some research, it seems that the Redline is very comparable to the V1. However there is no justifying its extra cost.
Speaking of multiple cars, isn't it better to have a dedicated RD for each car since switching back and forth would be a hassle in the long run and especially if one is late for work etc.

It is mostly a revenue scam in the US, especially with the automatic camera systems. You see how they're privatized through a company that is dead-set on increasing revenue, and they bypass the legal system completely when they automatically issue you a ticket with no recourse for court. Here in Canada they've passed that into law in a few places, combined with a tough 'anti-street racing' bill that gets all the publicity so noone reads into it further.
SpeedyTT, when I was in LA a couple of years back I saw that CA has a law on the books that forbids mounting ANYTHING that suction-cups to your windshield. After seeing a picture of a CA car with 30+ such things, I can see why.

I really do hate the speeding tax. But I suppose it is one of the easiest laws to 'enforce' for generating revenue.
Enforce laws against speeding in residential areas, go after aggressive driving, make laws against texting while driving, red lights andmy favorite defective equipment. I see at least one vehicle every day with a ball-joint that has separated and let the wheel hang loose.

They are using something similar here in Dallas. I just bought a 'spare' engine, to freshen up the car. So the LI system will have to wait till my current one is not sitting on the shop floor. Let us know how it works once installed.Originally Posted by Dr_jitsu

If you want to be completely protected you have to also get a Laser Interceptor laser jammer. It's the best, hands down. I had one in my last car and I promise you it works. Saved my butt a number of times. Go to radardetector.net for more information than you'll want.
I'd suggest you get the latest camera locations entered into whatever you use for GPS or get a detector that has GPS built in. Cameras are cropping up everywhere and if you don't have them in your area just wait, you will. They're like crack for local politicians.

Red light cameras are bringing in lots of needed revenue for our hard working politicians lunch money. The average yellow light is 3 seconds. They can actually monitor the revenue/tickets given from specific intersections and if the location is not creating enough revenue they can shorten the 3 second yellow light down to as much as 1.5 seconds to get the $$ rolling to what they want! For those whithout GPS just add the Escort SC55 in addition to your existing radar detector if you live or travel through areas with cameras.
Bell STI driver and the Escort Redline and 9500ci are the longest range and are fully undetechtable by radar detector detectors. Which cops do use especially in Virginia.
Roads where surveys are completed can also be used, if the road in CA has not had a survey in 2-years (I believe) then then cannot find guilt in court, there are some other cross references/ sub sections for various loops in both directions. It's best to grab the CVC and read... Plenty of space to get around a ticket if you really want to... Also if you are in a small city in California ask for a transfer to a LARGE court in Los Angeles since most small agencies don't have the money/ man power to send that officer to loose a day to testify.
If they can use a gun to tell them how fast I'm driving I should have a V-1 to tell me they have that gun pointed at me right?
Good Luck Speeders!!!
