Convertible Top Issues

Have searched the forum but did not find what is happening to me, hope I did not miss it and have created a repeat thread.

Every so often when I go to put the top down in my cab it will stop when opening. Windows go down, middle latch detaches and top starts to open. Once there is about a 1 to 2 inch gap between the top of the wind shield and the top it just stops. I do not see any error message other then the dash convertible top light starts to flash, if I move even at a slow slow pace it will give the usual top in motion statement on the dash but no specific error message.

I have not found a definite combination of that fixes it yet. It seems if I just hold the close button the top light will go solid, then flash, with no top movement. This can go on for several min, pressing and holding the top close button. Or it can go on for a few seconds and the top closes.

Once closed it will open right up, never had the issue twice in a row but has happen several times.

Anyone else?

could be low fluid or need lubrication. i would go to a dealer or an upholstery shop. does the top rattle when you drive? also, are you operating the top on flat land?

Going to bring it in. Happened again today.

No rattling and on flat land each time, only once on an incline did it happen.

While on the cab soft top..... What do people use to clean them if they have a stain??? Do not want to wind up making it worse!

Mine wouldn't close once. So I took it to the dealer and they reset it. Has worked fine since.

I've had mine in for what turned out to be lose fabric getting caught while the top was opening resulting in the top slamming down into the body. When I brought the car in the service manager thought it could be hydraulic fluid loss(bad piston) or one of a number of limit switches. I think I got off cheap.
Hope your problem is easily solved.

Mine had a similar problem at one point. The dealer adjusted something (inexpensive) and no problems since. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the folding mechanisms are full of limit switches and other interlocks (force feedback loops, for example) to prevent damage. I'm a mechanical engineer and I use the same type of precautions in my designs. Small adjustments might be necessary to realign everything from the normal shifting/sagging that occurs with age and use.

You may want to check on Loren's site renntech.org and download some of the tech docs around the convertible tops. There are clear step by step instructions on how fix issues.
