White Smoke?

I just left a friends house and I took off at full force in first and second gear.

My friend called me and said that the car blew some white smoke, is this a problem or a potential problem??

Thanks in advance for any help.

White smoke is typically coolant burning, which would happen if you blew a head gasket, but it can also just be carbon deposits if it only happens once. I hope you weren't getting on it though when the oil was bone cold

You should have seen the plume of smoke that came out of my car after having the motorvac run through it - got two cars behind me to honk when I got on it in first .

If I blew a gasket wouldn't the oil look funny? I checked under the oil cap and it looked fine, also wouldn't the car run differently.

Trust me I know about plumes of smoke, I was at a well known area full of outdoor Restraunts and i started my car up and what do you know, I smoked out everyone that was dining there, this happened when the car was new though.

Could have been condensation or carbon if you were on it hard. Believe me you would know if it was a head gasket or a turbo cut loose.

My car has white smoke at start up, especially when it has been sitting and not used for more than 4 days.

Not always, you can have tiny leaks in the gasket - but yes, your coolant would start to look sludgy, and there would be constant smoke, not just a singular occurence. More than likely it was carbon deposits - just drive your car harder .

Guys,

Thanks so much for your help, I went out with some frinds for a drive, there was a GT2 a 993 TTS a 360CS and we had a lot of fun and all I can say is that the IA640 is one hell of a beast, nothing came even close, and the GT2 & TTS are not stock. :-)

the smoke is a function of the turbos and not an issue. turbos burn oil and it looks white. the amount of oil burned may be an issue if you are starting to break your engine with all that hp but this would be unusual considering all the modded TTs on this board.
