'02 c2 engine replacement

1 have an '02 c2 cab...just when it was hitting 15k, i noticed a leak and took it to the dealership...they ended up replacing the whole engine without any word!!!!
i find out that my friend also had the same problem around 15k and they replaced the engine with no questions asked...does anyone know about this or had the same problem?

I think you've bust a Rear Main Seal,
So many here know how you feel.
It seems your crankshaft's out of round,
A little oil is what you found.

So to the dealer you blithely go,
You think you'll wait a day or so.
A week henceforth, and you get called.
A brand new engine got installed.

So now you've joined our merry troupe,
Targa, Cab, and even Coupe.
But Turbo guys are spared the salve...
Oh, wait, they've got Diverter Valves.

(that last rhyme was kind of weak, but you try and rhyme 'Diverter Valve' after a half bottle of wine)

Was talking with a friend who's tight with Porsche NA and i think they are replacing engines now rather than just throwing rear mains in because many of the cars that were losing rear mains were losing main journal bearings within 8000 miles or less of rear main replacement. All main journal probs were front bottom half which would explain the leakage at the rear main first. In my own shop i have seen this a number of times including JoeFixx's 996na and also Grey Ghosts' 04 996 (although Britt upgraded to the 04 TT he had a rear main leak on the n/a996. The guy who bought the 996 after Britt put 2000 miles on it and then it went south, dealer put a new engine in.) Porsche has been pretty quiet about all this but if you look at the specs on the 997 they changed the cradle material for staters. Hear they have had problems with those as well already though...
