Warming up TT

Anyone know why Porsche cautions against warming up the car by letting it idle?

Check out this thread...I had a similar question. Bottom line, I let mine warm up till the idle rpm's die down to there normal range.

EPA......whatever Does it hurt to warm the car up to the temperature where you can measure the oil level by letting the car idle?

At least with my GT3, it takes too long to warm up at idle to get an oil reading with the dry sump system. I am not sure if the system is different for the TT. I find I have to drive a bit to get an accurate reading...

I won't move my car until the water reads 158 degrees F. That takes about 6-7 minutes. I will then drive it under 2000 rpm's until the oil reaches 158 degrees F. Which is about another ten minutes. Cold oil will drasticly increase engine and turbo wear. One hundred and fifty-eight degrees is minimum oil temperature for pressing your motor.

Yeah but those of us with straight pipes and neighbors can't do that I let it idle for about a minute or two and then creep out....

sharkster,

You have been to my place and seen the car. You know I have neither. If you have to creep away, do it slowly for about 15 minutes. Just because your water says 180 degrees does not mean your oil is 180 degrees. When your water first hits 180 degrees, your oil is only around 78 degrees.

I don't know if you have seen the gauge console S Car Go Racing built. It looks like and blends in like it came directly from Porsche, only better. It has Water temp., Heads temp., Oil Temp., AFR, Exhaust temp on all six cylinders, Tranny temp., Differencial temp., Intercooler temp. before, after and delta, Individual tire temp., pressure and alarm, Boost, N2O pressure and Fuel pressure. Most of the gauges are from Dakota Digital.

Ahh I think I did see that. It's overhead isn't it? The Dakota Digital stuff rules. Stephen made me one of those for a proper boost gauge between the seat heaters. Slick.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is wrong with leaving the car idling? I don’t do it often, but sometimes I leave the car on in the winter until it warms up (about 20 min), and sometimes I leave someone in the car while the car is on.
