Tire suggestions

After finding out my favorite tire, Toyo T1-S, is not offered. Wanted to hear some opinions on what tires I should go with. The sizes recommend are:

315/25/19

245/35/19

I know a few of you run this setup, so any advice on what brand/model you prefer would be appreciated.

i was informed that pilot sports are overkill esp if you use them for daily driving and not tracking...i use conti's with your set-up and they are fine...no problems....hated the bridgestones...blew the rear 3 times in 1 year....just use them for daily driving

Joekim there is a big difference between Michelin Pilot Sports and the Pilot Sport Cups. I think you were referring to the cups in your track reference. The Pilots are the way to go! If you drive less than 10K a year and never in the rain, try the Pilot Sport Cups. In the handling dept they will blow your socks off compared to a normal street tire. I have several sets of Hoosiers and run the old ones regularly on the street. Nothing, absolutely nothing, can hang with me on the twisties on street tires. The sport cups do have tread and are ok for the street (no rain!!!!). I will replace my Conti's with Sport Cups for the street next time around. Either way Michelins are TOPS.

PS2 are the way to go. I have 19in 245/315 and they are glue on the road and complement the PSS9s/PSM set up very nice. Just don't expect to get more then 8K miles on them. A set of rears will cost you $1100. I just had to buy a new pair on Friday. I came out of resturant after lunch and found the rear passenger tire flat as a pancake. Ran over a piece of metal about an inch in length and it completely impaled itself into the tread. Due to about 5/16 wear on the tires I decided to change both to keep everything even.

When I first bought them last year the rears were $425 each. Now due to the lovely currency exchange they are $585. Michelin also increases their tire prices on average 15% at the beginning of each year. Good product and they know it.

Good luck in your decision

My pleasure. I may be getting old but I saw that puppy on HWY 85 going around 110mph. Pretty good eyes for an old fart like me.

I went with the PS2s as well. I have been very happy but there are others who have not been so happy (especially with some quality control issues).

BTW, I just checked the Tire Rack and the price for OEM sizes is still the same as it was last year. $346 for the rears.

Not for 315/25/19. You may want to recheck the size. Those are what I have on my rear end.

Does anyone have any info on the "new" Conti VMAX tires in the 315/25/19 size? I noticed that Conti has two different models out, now. I am curious to see how the new ones perform vs the PS2.

The Toyo street tires suck. Way too soft.

PS2s are one of the very best along with the S-03s.

ordering a set of PS2's this week.

The S-03's are an average of 4lbs heavier per tire when compared to the T1-S, thats an extra 16lbs of rotational mass! S-03's provide better wet traction. T1-S provide better dry traction.

As for Toyo's "suck" becuase they are soft? The correct amount of soft compound is key, this can relate to good traction and handling. The T1-S have been rated above and beyond the majority of today's performance tires, unfourtanately they will not be introducing 315/25/19 & 245/35/19 sizes until late 2005, according to my Toyo rep.

The 245 VMax won't hit our shores till later this year. It's still going through DOT approval. We already have the 315's in stock.

For those unfamiliar, it's going to be the first tire approved for 200mph+ sustained (aka "Ludicrious Speed"!) It's rated "Z" because the don't have a speed rating above "Y" (186) yet.
