If you were in Houston I'd offer to help on this. Tony's flasher and I go way way back lol! I agree with Mark as well, due to the old GIAC lock you may not be able to flash at all unless it is done on the bench.

Unable to write flash. Details: ”An error has occurred executing an operation on the ECU.”.

I've tried downloading a new flash and using a different, fully charged laptop. My battery is 1 month old and installed by the dealership; It shows >12v with the key in run position. Only thing I haven't tried is the battery charger, but I have low hopes of success with this.

EPL did wonder if the car is already flashed. My usual max bar is 0.8 with a one-time 1.0 on a very cold morning. The previous owner was a Porsche dealership and the car was a lease.

Any other ideas?
Congrats! I just did check the server logs and see that did in fact flash (looks like you tried 3 times, all 3 it completed).

It is infact failing in the verification process, but all that does is clear the DME of codes that arise while flashing. Most of these codes are the same codes that would arise when disconnecting your battery.

You should be seeing 1.0 bar steady, if your not give us a ring monday and we can discuss things to look at.... Boost leak, f hose, DV's or a boost control valve would be the first few things I would look into.

I get no progress bar when the software says writing program. The car still gets 0.8 bar and there is no difference in performance. I'll try the charger and a 3rd laptop. Any recs on which charger I should buy?

By george I think you're right. After my first 3-4 attempts a couple if days ago the car was no different when I drove it. When I used a new laptop I got the same error in the same place so I didn't actually take it out for a real drive until this morning.

In my 10 minutes driving to work I saw 1.1 bar and maybe even 1.2 bar. I'll have to drive a bit more to confirm. The bar also starts going up at 2400-2500 rpm. I think previously I needed 3500 rpm before seeing any boost.

I also think my tires actually lost traction at the top of second gear, which has never happened before...

Thanks!

do make sure your not boosting more then the tune is setup for otherwise issues can occur. if you boosting more then what tony set you up for might be worth a call.

The car flashed just fine...on the first try I might add. We log all flash activity on our sever and there is no issue here.

You probably flashed just fine this time.... but just to make sure... was the temp any lower then previously? these cars will peak .1 to .2 higher on the dash just from a 20 degree temp drop...

Alot of older chips that involved soldering are protected and cannot be reflashed over OBDII - sounds like this is what you are encountering. As far as I know stock boost .6-.7

Hey Tony, my car really rocks BTW...It's really losing traction in RWD mode ahah!!!And the overall feel is soooo much better!
And I'm still searching for boost leaks and waiting for some good DV's since I only see 0.9 bar in 3rd...so it could go even better!!!Wow..

Yes, the car flashed. Only the verification part of the program gave an error.

Apparently the 5 minutes spent in "programming" is actually writing to the ECU. The "writing program" box that comes next (and where I had the error) seems to be verification.

Nevertheless, the first time I drove after what I thought was a failed flash the car didn't seem different. But when I drove it this morning it was definately different. Negative expectations must have colored my perception.

Sure. What is the next rec? DVs? spark plugs? Intake? Exhaust? I think I might be partial to giving the exhaust note some more punch.

What kind of upgrades will require a new EPL flash? Turbos?

I found a local gas station that does 100 oct. I tried 12 gal 91 and 4 gal 100 (making 93) and the car seemed to like it. I don't really think I'll be buying 16 gallons of 100 oct in the near future, but I wonder if it is at least safe with the flash?
