Flash problem

I recently purchased an EPL flash for my 05 TTS. Unfortunately I can't get it working. Everything initially proceeds smoothly. Car recognized. Flash downloaded. "Programming" progress bar takes 5-10 minutes to complete. The next step is "writing program" with a new clean progress bar and an immediate error:
Unable to write flash. Details: ”An error has occurred executing an operation on the ECU.”.

I've tried downloading a new flash and using a different, fully charged laptop. My battery is 1 month old and installed by the dealership; It shows >12v with the key in run position. Only thing I haven't tried is the battery charger, but I have low hopes of success with this.

EPL did wonder if the car is already flashed. My usual max bar is 0.8 with a one-time 1.0 on a very cold morning. The previous owner was a Porsche dealership and the car was a lease.

Any other ideas?

Have you talked to EPL yet?

They have seen it all and probably know exactly where the issue lies

Double check the connections. I had the same issue and it was my usb port at my laptop not connecting correctly. Once I figured that out, only 5 minutes or less and it was flashed.

EPL suggested a new laptop, trying a fresh flash, and using the charger.

Only thing I haven't tried is the charger.

The cable is recognized on both laptops, in different USB ports. Still get the same error on the same spot in the flash process.

It was for mine also, the cable just came loose as my USB ports were on the right side of the laptop stretching the cable. Once I placed the laptop, oddly enough in my lap, it loaded no problem.

I had that exact problem when I tried uploading my EPL flash to my Turbo a couple months ago. Took 3 different laptops before I finally got one to work. Try another laptop. I know its a pain but thats what did it for me.

A third laptop. I only have two. Any thoughts about what the difference was between the successful laptop and the others? Certain services or programs running or not running?

My guess- just a guess- is that it will be buried in the USB hardware/driver routine. Try and find a different mfg. (ie not just two different Dells.)

To Scremin911- what MGFs did you try, which worked???

I loaded mine on a brand new HP laptop. Again, I got the same errors. It recognized the usb device, but when I started the flash process the cable came just slightly disconnected. Are you stretching the cable from the OBD port to the laptop in any way?

When I did mine recently it went flawless. Two year old Toshiba laptop on a charger in the garage. Followed the directions and no problems. I think the cable should be a little longer but other than that, everything went as directed. Did I mention I love my EPL flash? Once you got it done, Let us know how you like it

Forget everything... Stop....
Send the ecu to Tony... have him bench flash it... overnight shipping $20... new laptop $600... new battery $160... etc etc...
If you have a Giac flash, they encrypt the ecu, and usually cannot be flashed in car...
just a thought... but I would take it out and send it.
