What's the biggest size tires I can run on the front of my 996TT?

I have HRE Comp97s in 18x9.5s for the front and they came with wimpy 235/40/18. Can I step up to a 255/40 or a 265/35 on the front with out any rubs or nasty comments?

Comments/Help?

Thanks.
-V

I run 255 35 18s on stock wheels. They were the best (perfect) diameter match to 295/30 rears.

255 is about the widest you can expect to fit the wheels and have the correct OD to be safe. Whether it rubs varies on wheel offset and spring height.
