Engine and Tranny Mounts

I know there have been many of these threads. What's the consensus on what to get. Factory GTx engine mounts and 997T tranny mount? What about Wevo?

I had a chance to drive my father in law's 7GT3 at the track and was floored at how much more crisp and direct it is. Now I'm on a quest to get as close as possible without gutting my car or going RWD. That GT3 really felt like a smaller car... so MUCH more grip and accuracy. The turn-in is just fantastic.

Motor mounts- WEVO. Tranny mount is risky, your transmission will sound like its in the back seat if you go solid. But it's an easy DIY, and not very expensive, so you can always swap it out.

I want to keep the ride relatively streetable and comfortable but a GT3 ride and noise levels are acceptable

Wevo engine mounts & solid ( urethane ) transmission mounts. They're not so bad, unless you also have a LWFW. Then the idle rattle is quite annoying. Strangely while driving you hardly notice anything. 996 isn't exactly a 5-series Beemer anyway...

I changed to the 997TT tranny mount and found the shifting to be much more precise. I was seriously impressed by the improvement.

Granted, my mount was partially torn prior to the replacement...

there are a few motor mounts WEVO is the popular one though.

with your trans mount you can get the 997mount i think its under 300$ if memory serves right. and then you can fill your stock 996 mount rubbers with 3M window weld to make it quote *solid* and see if you like it.

Cannot find a DIY for changing out the tranny mount. Just got the 997 one and want to know the gotchas (torque, tools needed, etc...).

Thanks guys!

Hey Jeff! Merry Christmas! It is a pretty easy swap from what I remember when I helped get the tranny out for a clutch job. Just take off the cover, support the tranny and swap it out.

Repair manual says 48 ft lbs for all mount bolts.

Have fun!

Merry Xmas everyone! For the record I took out my Wevo mounts and sold them. Back on stock engine mounts with a 997T tranny mount.

What seemed like an almost imperceptible jiggle at first really got to me after a while. Especially on long freeway commutes on 19" wheels. I can only describe it as feeling like out of balance rear tires.

You will get the biggest impact towards a GTx feel from dumping the front diff, axles and going 2WD. Mounts is a complete waste of time until you do.
