Vivid's 3 Inch Y Pipe

Now I haven't driven the car yet until tomorrow but I have seen what came on and off my 996 TT. My local expert engineering workshop welded on the 3 inch outlets to my AWE Intercoolers and fitted the Y pipe. Now these guys are really engineering experts with everything and its clearly a very serious B*tch to get the Y pipe fitted and everything back in place as it is all UNBELIEVABLY TIGHT in there. They kinda gave me me the look of "we won't be doing that again, so don't ask us", but you have to hand it to Vivid for getting the MAXIMUM POSSIBLE FLOW to the plenum from intercoolers with a constant diameter pipe. Driving impressions and boost levels tomorrow ....

No No these guys really can do anything with any car, within the realms of physics, this is a MAJOR JOB BUT delivering a constant velocity 3 inch pipe is worth it ! how many Vivid 3 inch Y pipes have you fitted Markski ?

I never installed a vivid Y pipe but probably did 30 installations of my own big Y pipe and huge ICs.... the idea is the same as long as the parts are made to fit...

I am actually very happy labor wise these guys charge $50 an hour, my question to Markski is does he have a full 3" Y pipe, pics please ... or maybe it is something TOTALLY different....

I have 3" Y-Pipe setup and honestly I could get away with smaller on my old power level. At my new predicted power levels I will def. need the bigger pipe I have. Remember you can always make a pipe to big for the air being flowed through it...

I use 3.5"with either 2.5" or 2.75" piping. Our cars have made 900 to 1100 rwhp on it.. no need for 3" going to ICs... we do either 2.75 or 2.5".
my point is not to talk about my Y pipe... my point was how your shop said they dont want to do another one... that thru me off.... its not that bad... that was my point....
No its not exactly the same as yours.... no one will have an exact same one as Vivids.. we all make our own versions... Proto, Switzer, Evoms, etc....

From the pics i have seen of the Y pipe it realy doesnt look to hard to fit . I would think a hell of alot easyer than fitting intake pipework with the engine still in, now thats a job i wouldnt realy like to do again in a hurry

I can understand how the 3" pipe would be an extremely tight fit. Our 2.5" Y-Pipe is an extremely tight fit. I am not sure how a 3" pipe can fit within the confines of the air box, A/C lines, etc. based on my experience and I have fitted quite a few 2.5" Y-Pipes with the OEM air box. I think I know what your shop ran into...the larger Y-Pipes are a very tight fit.

This is very good advice.
