2005 996 tt s

I would appreciate any feeback/suggestions from those in the know.

Background: I am considering purchasing an 2005 996 Turbo S Cab with 9K miles and under CPO warranty til 5/11 for $68K. I know the current 2nd owner and he purchased the car in 12/07 with 5K miles from the dealer with the extended warranty and all paperwork. I do plan on getting a PPI, but am concerned because the 2nd owner has not done any maintenence. When asked, his comment is that he's only driven 4K miles in the last 3 years and didn't feel any maintenence was needed.

My question to the group would be:

1. Is this cause for concern? When looking through the manual, it suggests all fluids be changed every 2 years regardless of mileage. The car has pretty much sat in the garage the last 3 years and in some ways I think might not have been a good thing.

2. Since there are only 7 months left on the extended warranty, I'm concerned that if there are any issues, they might not show up until a year or two down the road with more miles accumulated since this won't be my daily driver and will probably not see much use during the winter months. Is this a valid concern? Would issues like radiators, 2nd gear, etc have time to show up by now?

3. Any other issues pertaining to the 05 TT S that I should be aware of or have looked at more closely during PPI?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I would be concerned about the engine oil not changed within 2 years (esp with 4k miles), but I would not completely take the car off my list because of that. I would ask to send an oil sample for analysis to see where the oil's Total Base Number (TBN) is. If it's still "high", then that's a good thing.

Even if TBN is low, I can't imagine any significant wear from engine acid/corrosion from just that one incident. Maybe the damage will be realized over time with this repeated habit.

The other question is, will the CPO be void since oil service was not performed as recommended by the owner's manual. Call a few dealers and see what they say.

Good luck.

/m

I would not worry about it either. 4K is not much for the oil. It is a long time frame, but I would not worry.

You still have a CPO warranty. BTW, a 997TT Cab is always nice, but I would say it would be 25-30K more.

Great price for a car that sold for $155,000 new. I have the same car/milage and would never sell at that price. I change my oil every 1000 miles or twice a year. The "S" is a rock solid car. The first thing I would do is change the oil/filter and air filter.

Gave more than that for mine and it's similar miles

Would not sell at that price either.

Just get it and service it, then DRIVE IT!

68k is a steal for a RARE TURBO S car. This car will continue to hold it's value down the road. Buy it and enjoy!

It's been posted before but less than 400 true TURBO S cars were made.

link below says 250

Thank you all for the input.

Yes, if I had extra funds I would shoot for a 997 Turbo Cab too, but I know the the Turbo S will satisfy all my needs and feel a little bit better that the majority of the depreciation was taken on by someone else.

By the way, silver and all stock.

Snag IT.

An excellent price.

05 X50 Rocks! This beast will fill your need for speed!

Save your dollars and savor the sound with an aftermarket exhaust.

I think it's overpriced. Especially for October. These cars have a seasonal fluctuation. Even more so for the cabs.
