If you feel like spending a good few hundred hours trying to understand the system yourself, I'm sure you'll find ways to do this. Beware of people who will be quick to ask you for a few thousand dollars in order to share info with you but who won't help you once you're stuck somewhere, there are a few such con artists around, not necessarily in the Porsche circles.

A Revo flash lets you fine tune your ECU.

Im having trouble finding motronic hacks. well at least anything that is thru the OBD port. and maybe replacing to keyed chip with a non keyed one.

theres no shortage of HOW TO BURN EPROMS stuff. which is a pain if your tuning on the street. or even dyno

I saw the revo site. i dont know if thats what im looking for. I would much rather pull the Engine control files and run them through something like rom raider and upload.

maximum flexibility is the goal here.

I know im not going to get something like a motec ecu with switchable inputs and out puts and such.

but control parameters and disabling things would be nice.

I have thought about going megasquirt V3. but if the motronic can stay that would make life easier. from a wiring perspective anyway.

most of us have spent at least 100K on the hardware/software with the technology needed to actually tune....
www.evc.de

this is the way to go but you need tons of money...

The DME is nothing like Hondata or LS1Edit/HPTuners if that is what you are banking on. Over 4000 tables and a lot that interact with other tables that you don't know...

If you're making your own tools....you would have to try hard, really hard to spend 25% of the money you mentioned.

Looks like im going to start googling megasquirt alot more often than motronic tuning. but not after i send a few emails to EVC.

I have a friend that frequently messes with his Audi's motronic ECU. As far as I understand theres 4 separate control units. Im going to have to see if his gear will work with the 996.

pro efi looks like a standalone unit. and its expensive. im looking for cheapness.

and i just found a autronic SM4 for sale locally. $600 afaik the SM4 wont run sequential injection on a 6 cylinder engine. or standalone coils for that matter

and as far as the millions of tables are concerned. wont need any computer wizardy in the ways of stability and traction control or even ABS for that matter.

My DD was a OBD1 MR2 with 3/4 of everything deleted. i know OBD1 is a different world to what the DME is but nothings impossible. the MR2 is being retired as a track only car. probably beause it doesnt have A/C anymore

for my next car im looking to get a porsche 996, or 993, or maybe a 930. but its looking better for 996tt's

alot of people here seem to be having problems with their porsches here when it comes to electronics. and my plan is to avoid those problems.

Im on a bit of a budget because im not settling for anything except a TT car, and i cant really afford to do much to it after i buy it.
hell the only way i can fix it is if i do all the work myself.

like I was saying maybe megasquirt will work? there isnt much out there that can run a 6 cylinder car on coils with seq injectors. Im not even sure megasquirt will.. but i know some older porsche track cars run them. megasquirt was supposed to be my last option..

Just like learning to unsolder the "few" pins on a board? Still won't forget that!
