Tiptronic limits

What do you mean Alex? I'm just speaking from experience, which is 100% true.

Todd knows what he is talking about! With a Tip, you have to know when to stop or else it would be a "money pit". If you are running a K24/18 at its full potential, the stock tranny cannot handle it. The K16/16 is a much better choice, unless you are thinking about a tranny built.
Ben,
Tranny for tranny the 6 speed is stronger in the 996TT. Now, the clutch on the six speed is not strong enough to handle 550/550. Replacing the clutch is an easier, more accessible and less expensive and more proven option than anything you can do to a tip as of right now.
I loved my tip, but the more I threw at it, the more frustrating it got. I was not happy with dialing my boost back just so my tranny wouldn't blow again.

The kit to upgrade the tip is around 5-6000$, almost the same money for a very good clutch, right?
I know that you are speaking from experience but you where let's say a pioneer in this modification, but now I really think that the tip can sustain more power if it is upgraded well, here in Europe form some time companies are selling components for upgrade the gearbox.
I don't want to sound disrespectful but this is what i think.

If you had an X50 that already had K24s, what would you do? K24/18G was the top that I was shooting for, as I was told the Tip could take it. If I don't already have the K16 cores, it would seem silly to buy a complete K16/16 package, wouldn't it? I suppose I could sell the K24s to offset the price. (Man, now you've actually got me thinking about billet K16s to reduce lag.) Can you retrace what kind of power ultimately blew up your Tip? Were you at K24/18G when it blew, or did you have it past that point already? Thanks.

No disrespect at all Alex. A good clutch to handle 550/550 is what $3-4k installed? Thats a far cry from building the tip for $5-6k and install for another $1-2k.

If I was you and already had the K24s, I would do the 18G and only get the essential mods (no need for rear intake piping, y-pipe, TB, etc...)

I was still on 16/16's when it blew the first time at around 525-550hp/tq.
I would upgrade the 24's but just watch my boost levels..

Actually the Tilton is in the $6k+ area. Though everyone one here that owns one will agree it's probably the best clutch you can buy. We all run the triple disk versions, but the big HP Supra's/Viper's/etc.. run Quad-Disk.

I knew some high power 6-speeder would chime in

Building - is when you destroy your gearbox?!
Upgrade - is when you change the weak points in the gearbox?!
MKB is selling the upgrade kit for ~3500euro
WhiteKnight for like 5000$
Switzer i think is more or the same as WhiteKnight.
9ff- i don't know...
I personally think that the biggest problem is the heating in the gearbox (from what i read) and the tq.
