Wanted to Introduce myself...
Just wanted to introduce myself. I have been lurking here for a while since my interest in getting a 996TT has grown. I am still learning about the details and peculiarities for Porsches from an ownership stand point. Although I've been an Instructor for PCA for over 5 years and have driven many porsches from 993 Cup, 996 Cup, GT2, GT3, GT3RS, 996/997 both varients as well as the 993 Cup. I have not owned my own. I campaigned an M3 LTW race car for years in BMW CR and GTS3 competition and am familiar with BMWs and Mercedes but this is my first Foray into Porsche ownership, aside from driving many of them on circuits ranging from Watkins Glen to VIR! They are amazing cars indeed, for many years getting one was not worth it for me due to their cost and already having a race car, tow rig, and not enough room to have it. But now with the 996TT becoming availabile at lower prices I am looking to purchase.
I am currently looking at a 996TT, somewhat extensively modded to the with the EVOMS 700 kit or thereabouts. It's put together quite well seems like and has cought my interest. I have been around modded cars both on and off the track for the last 7 or 8 years so the mods don't bother me it's just that I don't know about all the quirks involved with mods on the 996TT...I think at the end of the day I am looking for a very reliable, hassle free, street car...that has a good amount of power and torques but also something that I can drive to the track on occasion with a simple pad and tire swap and instruct at a PCA track day and take my student(s) out in (my race car only has a drivers seat and a full cage and has a cool suit and Data Aquistion hardware in the passenger side seat well).
Wanted to say hello to you all and ask for your advice, comments, and any information you can give me. In regards to what I should look for in purchasing a 996TT, or your thoughts on buying a modded car vs. stock and modding it myself, or really anything you'd like to share...I am a newbie once again lol

i bought a heavyily modded car with evoms parts, they wont answer the phone or assist at all in any updates questions or anything about it. and since its spectacular tune has resulted in its second complete motor tear down in its history. research local shop that would take care of your car if your not going to do it all yourself.
I bought my car with mods with the idea that i could just hop in and drive it, aside from maintence it would be trouble free well 4 months in i lifted both heads off the block with 1.2 bar of boost(should never be enough to do this). Not all cars will suffer similar fate but it is something to think about when its your money on the line.
will i buy another car with mods in the future yea, but i will do a much more extensive research into its history and the company behind the modifications.
what im getting at is get a PPI done from a Porsche Expert not some indy or stealership find someone that really knows these cars. Get together with some local guys in your area and get a feel for how much power you really want.

IMO, the 996TT is the performance buy of the century. You get race proven performance from the GT1 engine as well as great handling and classy looks.
Combine that with our P800 package and you have the best (imo) daily driving, take it straight to the track from the office and back home, performer on 93 octane pump gas.

Nice input guys...keep it coming
. Lots to learn here as I can see, even for someone used to driving a variety of porsches on track there is a good deal to know about what comes with ownership, pitfalls, and maintainance of them. Especially considering modded vehicles.
The car I'm looking at has parts from Evoms like the y pipe and TB,red silicone hoses, clubsport IC, and GT700 package but also has 2.5" FVD inlet plenum with custom ducted air intake, hitachi MAF upgrade, cargraphic exhaust, Garrett GT28RS ceramic ball bearing water cooled turbo upgrade and a GIAC custom tune..so it's not all straight Evoms stuff but it uses components from the GT700 setup with some addtional parts...
It's said to put around 535 AWHP on a mustang dyno on pump fuel tune and maybe 585 AWHP on race cas tune I think...is this what I should expect from this setup?
Anyways lots of cars to choose from out there...and many enthusiasts....looks like this is a good bunch of people to learn from!

your a road course guy i think a mildy modded 996tt would fit your bill well. small turbos good flowing pipes and exhaust and good intercoolers and spend the rest on coilovers sway bars and such =)
Just wanted to say thanks for the information...Spoke with Neil at length yesterday he has some interesting ideas...also had a good conversation with EVOMS.. so right now just looking at some cars out there and thinking about what I'd like to do
