Bad107 996TT Tip Reborn at Vivid Racing 700+HP
Bad107 996TT Tip Reborn at Vivid Racing 700+HP
Sorry this is a long post but the short of it is this is Bad107 Porsche 996TT Tiptronic. He was introduced to us a long time ago from Todd aka vividracingtx aka blackhorseturbo. Bad107 started the mod bug and initially had his tiptronic running some AP peformance parts and then upgraded to K16/16G. Recently, he decided to take his car further. So he turned to Vivid Racing for parts, but since he is in Houston, TX, he went to a local shop for installation.
Bad107 got from Vivid Racing new Agency Power Intercoolers, Agency Power TB/Plenum, and Agency Power Y-Pipe, and one of our prototype silicone intake to turbo piping (designed for 6speed). Bad107 also added some Tial A28 turbos from the boys at Switzer and some of Markski's (911Tuning) 60lb injectors. The car was already equipped with an Agency Power exhaust and headers as well as a Softronic ECU Flash.
So the story starts with his installer having issues with a boost leak while they were testing the car. The installer decided it was the YPipe and Plenum. Having made about 50 YPipes and 50 Plenums, we have not had any boost leakage or welding issues. His installer was trying to diagnose and doing boost leak tests. They insisted the leak was from our 2 parts. No problem Bad107, we will build a brand new YPipe and pressure tested it on the bench and then sent it out express in 2 days. This should take care of the issue right?
They receive the YPipe and install it and same thing, it is leaking from the top 3 auxillary fittings. How is this possible.... Why is this causing a HUGE boost leak problem?
"F&%K It, ship me the car"
This is to show the extra mile Vivid Racing will go for its customers and to up hold the brand integrity and product quality of Agency Power. At this point, it is not about money, its principle. Within 1 week we had a truck in Houston to pick up the car and then a couple days later it was here at Vivid Racing. The same day it arrived, we dove into it. All of this at no cost to the customer. Without going into details on each of the issues found unrelated to our products, you can see how we tested all the systems for a variety of boost leaks here, www.youtube.com/agencypower. We wanted to make sure our parts were sound and not the cause of the problem. Since the car was already here, we were not going to just fix a small pinhole leak and send the car back, we wanted to finish it off so he could actually drive it! Once everything was gone through, it was tuning time!
With the car strapped down to our Mustang AWD Dyno, it was time to datalog and test. BAD107 filled the car with a full tank of 93octane and Softronic had already provided us with a starting file. We ran the car out and datalogged it. The boost would spike to 1.3bar and then taper back down to 1.1bar. The entire system had been presssure tested to 25PSI and everything triple checked. There surely could not be a boost leak. Hmmm. Greddy settings, correct. Time to test. We swap out the Greddy Solenoid, same thing. We swap out the DV's, same thing. We switch to another BOV, same thing. Must be the wastegates. Unstrap the rear and take a look at the Tial A28 wastegates. The adjuster rod nut on the driver side is hung up on some coolant line and the passenger side is hitting part of the header. Weird. Adjust, change, fix. Redyno... Great we are holding boost consistant!
We sent Scott at Softronic 3 different datalogs and he gave us back 1 revision. More power! We wanted to increase midrange and top end power as to much torque on the tip would make it slip. So Scott send us another revision going through all the tables for that RPM range. Not to tute his horn, but that is pretty good that Scott in CT and us in AZ he could tweak the car that quick and that good. We ran the car out and got 532awhp and 563ft/lbs of torque. But we were not done. Softronic tunes all files to adjust for higher octane. So with only 88miles left in the tank, we dumped in a 5 gallon drum of VP MS109 octane. Cranked up the boost to run 1.6bar and we got some good additional gains. The cars top numbers were 571awhp and 632ft/lbs of torque. On a tip, this is really the max as we could feel the tranny did not want to stay together with that much torque. By Mustang standards this is over 700hp and 750ft/lbs at the crank. We wanted this car to go back to TX perfect! After all the work, we got the car where we wanted. What is the 60-130 time? You will have to wait for Bad107 to take to the streets and test it!
At the end of the day, we wanted to share this story to show that Agency Power makes a great product and we stand behind our products and customers. It is very common no matter the experience of a technician or dealership, his/her first time with a product on the car, anyone will have issues. We were glad to know that our Agency Power products were an asset to delivering this power and not the cause of the major issues. Hopefully some of this will open your eyes to further check out the Agency Power Porsche Product Line.

dan...thanks for all the help and the work...you definitely went above and beyond! Please thank Jason for the wrench time!
Those crank numbers might be a bit conservative...i thought the tip drivetrain loss was 25-28%?
Also, thanks to Matt @ Agency Power. He is a great person to deal with!
Thanks to Markski for the advisory and Scott for the tuning!
Can't wait to get the car back...60-130 numbers coming soon...hopefully I can contend with BHT (and not have to spend $5k on the tranny for at least 5k miles).

I am hopeful because the car has 35k miles on it. At 33k the tranny was rebuilt ...I had a leaky gasket and it was just a few hundred more to have all the clutch packs rebuilt etc... Everything was tightened to the best that it could be for OEM.
I have an extra tranny with a broken oil cooler....plan on sending the gears to whiteknight to build the tranny sometime soon

Isn't Whiteknight is out of the country? How much are you estimating including shipping?
Let me know how it turns out if you ever going to do that. I'm interested too; maybe we can do a two4one special.

Just about, in numbers, is not very much sending only the gears ?
Finally its done...
An observation.... and since I have been helping out the owner( no financial interest to me) I will say one lesson that can be learned...
If you plan on collecting parts to build a kit from different vendors, then taking them to a shop( not anyone particular- not bashing), expecting a problem free install, test, and tune, think AGAIN...
sometimes its worth buying a kit from one party so you can hold him accountable for the parts installed.... not to mention get some support along the way.... OR better yet, get that same tuner/shop to do the install...
glad its over.. I was getting more emails from Ben then from my Spam inbox lol
