A turbo timer connects to the ignition and O2 sensor and it determines from the way you have been driving (O2) how long the engine should idle before it is shut off. Sometimes, there is no idle time at all and sometimes it could be a couple of minutes - it just depends on how much you have been pushing the car. You can also manually set idle time if you want.

You could just sit in the car if you want - but this way it is all automatic and you don't have to wait around.
