Front Tire Size: 265/35-18 versus 235/40-18

Wanted to see if there was any input on front tires to run with 315/30-18 rears.

Choices are 265/35-18 versus 235/40-18

Lets say both would be on a 9" rim.

Revs per mile on the 315s are 817

Revs per mile on the 265s are 822
Revs per mile on the 235s are 819

So all well within 1%. The 265s are a smidge more 'mismatch' than either the stock TT or stock GT2 sizes (these are 2 and 3 revs per mile different, respectively). A few psi along with the front to rear weight bias could change these numbers in practice, too.

My question is NOT 'sizing', but rather thoughts on performance and handling.

I'm running the 265s and I really like it, but I'd like to hear comments.

A

I love it. Had that set up on my 993 and 996TT's. With good camber the car loves it. I remember when we spoke. Tricky fit huh!

ard,

What brand of tire are you running in the 265? Any rubbing/fitment issues in the front?

PS2.

Had very slight rub under lateral load with stock suspension, now resolved with coilover. (The spring perch on the stock is a huge 6 inch diameter.)

Wonder how it would react with H&R Coilovers?

ard, what brand tires are they? What width front wheel do you use with the 265's? Do you use spacers? Do you track that set-up?

Larry at the last autocross the fastest car was a 09 GT3 with Hoosier A6's in a 265 up front and a 315 in the rear. He ran a small spacer and had the fenders rolled. No rubbing per his comments. He was over 3 seconds a lap faster than any other car at the event. That combo works on his car. When my cups are done it is my intention to try that set up. I think Mike also tracks in those sizes?

I run 265s in front when I'm running street tires. Very good for lessening push.
I do get a little rub at parking lot steering angles, but that' something I'll tolerate
in order to get that extra grip. I run a 9" front wheel.
