Launch on a 996tt, is it bad?

Hi Everybody,

I'm new to the forums so I'm not sure if anyone's ever asked this but I have a 01' 996TT and when I launch on it, I feel like I get alot of wheel hop.........Does anyone know if this is normal? Would it be better to not launch on the 996tt's?

Any help would be great, Thanks!!

I have an '01 turbo and the wheel hop is normal, unfortunately.

You would be better "not" launching the car hard enough to the point of where you get wheel hop. Wheel hop will damage the motor mounts, tranny mounts, your engine, etc.

There are methods to help reduce wheel hop, but it just depends on how much you want to spend.

You might want to go to stiffer engine mounts as a precaution if you do alot of launches. Carnewal, a site sponsor, sells them. Their banner is on the right.-------------->

I would imagine your clutch takes a beating as well.

The best way to launch the tt from a start is to modulate the clutch (i.e. slip the clutch) as you put the power down. This will allow you to get off from a start without wheel hop or boggin down.

It takes some practice and will also wear out your clutch. I don't recommend doing too often.
