y pipe removal
y pipe removal
i'm thinking of getting my Y pipe powder coated arctic silver to match my car, does anyone have a Y pipe removal diy ? (i spent a while searching but couldnt find anything)
i'm assuming it has to be powder coated as opposed to regular body shop spray due to the heat in the engine bay etc

It's pretty straight forward and I was thinking of painting mine for a while now! I about yanked it out last night, but with it being in the teens temperature, the garage is freezing, so I waited...
Basically:
1. Disconnect hoses to ICs
2. Remove air filter box (13mm bolt at rear of car in the center, remove MAF wires, loosen intake clamp, swing box up 90 degrees rotating it on the intake hose part, then slip it out)
3. Remove the 10mm bolts (I think 2 or 3 of them) that holds the Y pipe on
4. Loosen throttle body to Y pipe clamp (a lot since it has a lip I think)
5. Remove the N75 valve vac hose
6. Wiggle it out!
Reinstall is the reverse, but the N75 hose is a pain to get back on so a pair of curved needle nose pliers is best.
I may have missed something, but it is a pretty simple job, IMO.

Absolutely! That is one sucky part about our cars, the stock engine bay is horribly boring...

I just removed mine - going to paint it guards red this weekend. I forgot the F hose has to come off and another small hose near the throttle body. As well as a sensor wire near the throttle body.
Will post up a pic once I get it back in!

That happens to! When I put my coilovers on, I broke some stuff and cost me pretty much the labor I saved to get it repaired. Plus about a month and a half waiting on parts from Germany (during the volcano episode)... I just like to tinker and you win some and lose some! :-) Coilovers was definitely much much more difficult than the y pipe!
