03 gt2 vs. 997tt. Help.
A TiptronicS 997TT is 1 second faster to 200 km/h. It is about 0.4 seconds faster to a quarter mile. It has a significantly faster launch because of brake boosting. In German auto magazines, the two cars have near identical 0-300 km/h times in Vmax testing and Nurburgring hot laps.
However, a 996 GT2 traps about 2-3 mph faster than a 997TT.
I guess it depends how you define faster.

tip = faster but 6sp = more fun and more of a drivers car for general purposes although on a track a sequential box is king!!
There is no "launch control" in a TiptronicS transmission. As I stated, the launch is due to brake boosting.
GT2 is faster...on a controlled race track or drag strip maybe. I would argue that in the real world on the streets the 997tt would be faster, if faster on the streets is what you want.
If you want a car for the track, get a GT3.
If you want a focused, exciting, light-weight, very fast street car, get a GT2. It's very easy to drive on the street, but also provides an 'edge' that the TTs simply can't.
If you want a comfortable but fast GT car, you definitely can't go wrong with a 997TT.

Having driven GT3, GT3RS, GT2, and 996TT/997TT on track, I think that for a track only car the GT2 has some advantages, there are no driver aids so rolling on throttle and things like power on oversteer and trailing throttle oversteer are very important concepts to know and feel how that car reacts. The turbo X50 will be almost as fast as the GT2 on track, same driver, near stock trim, with anything less than ideal track/weather conditions...the turbo is an easier and more forgiving car to drive on track but if you know how to drive it the GT2 can be superb out there. The Gt3 and RS are exceptional for not only their balance but the power application and delivery and being a bit more feedback oriented with a chassis a bit more sorted for the track.
I always tell my students at PCA events, on the street any of these cars are good, you don't really "drive" a car on the street (you more like guide it through mundane excercises), the car's are not getting utilized anywhere near what they are capable of unless they are driven at 10/10ths on a track lap after lap - and if an experienced driver is ringing them out in an enduro for hours on end that is where you see the real excellence of the marque, period. Therefor if you were considering a street car, get the one YOU fell most comfortable in, with the amenities you like, and the ride quality you prefer and the color combo that suits your taste...remmember you will likely spend more time in traffic with your morning coffee than threshold braking and rowing through gears so performance can take a back seat to comfort

Truly, there's just nothing like the GT2... It has that extra bit of "special" that very few Cars have. It's just a freaking Jet when you do a few simple things to it.. It already has K24's, so just a tune and an exhaust get you into rarefied territory... I have an EPL tune, Speedtech 100 cell X-flow system and the car is astounding.
If you want exlusivity, there are fewer GT2's than there are Carrera GT's. I get stopped so often, I can't count.. Everyone is stunned by how good it looks and are genuinely excited when they see it. Even the most diehard GTR/ Honda/BMW/Ferrari/Lambo Fanbois literally gush over it and generally act like excited 8 year olds at Christmas when they see it.
At the track, it has almost no equal. I have mine set up really well and nothing comes close.
If you want a true Supercar (197-198 mph stock!!), that is as fast as almost anything out there even today, that has rarity and style and demands more of you as a driver than almost any other Car you can think of, it's the GT2 hands down.
If you want an everyday driver, that will have a softer, more comfortable ride, will be more everyday friendly and is more manageable in the wet, choose the 997TT.
But I still think the GT2 is one of the most special Cars ever made.
Of course, I might be a wee bit biased...

I came from a 996TT and drove a 540whp 997TT a hand full of times, for quite long periods, a few weeks ago I bought from a fellow 6speeder a 996GT2, with a nearly perfect setup IMO. I'm amazed how different it is from a 996TT, but as 80shilling said, you can't drive the car on the street and actually ''drive it''. I had a few full race cars, and this car is by far the fastest, more rewarding and responsive car that I ever had.
This car is just amazing ... love it.
