Turbo cutting out

On full acceleration I have had my turbo cut out on me and lose almost all power. The check engine light comes on. After stopping and restarting the engine, all is good again. The check engine light goes off after another 2 uneventful starts. Anyone with this issue?

Had the same problem. Swap Maf. Easy to do, except paying $300 for a small piece of plastic.

Sorry, I'm new to the 996 but on other turbo cars that sounds like fuel cut. You're suggesting it's the MAF, if so the ECU can't understand or is getting incorrect readings from the maf and is going into safety.

Typically with a hotwire MAF you can pull them and spray with an electrical contact cleaner. If it's debris that's causing the issue, this could help extend the life of the MAF. I'd try cleaning (nothing to lose) before replacing.

If you want to try, ensure you're using a product like this. DO NOT use brake clean, windex, water, or any other bologna. Isopropyl alcohol also works if you can find it.

Regards,

Were you able to scan the codes googler2? This would likely help to diagnose. Perhaps you have a buddy with some licenses available on a Durametric if you don't have one?

+1 get the codes

I had the same loss of power problem but with no lights. Turned out to be a U shaped hose in the fuel pump unit. Under heavy throttle it would just dump fuel back into the tank.
Apparently its a common issue.
Good Luck!

Generally there are pretty smart folks that scan this forum with significant knowledge.

HOWEVER, when they read a thread where someone says "I got a CEL light", and people say "Read the codes and post". I am of the opinion that the most knowledgeable members will not repeat the advice AND they will not venture an opinion until the OP does that mandatory first step. READ THE CODES. dont start replacing parts.
