Blew my HEADGASKET

Just found out that my headgasket has blow out today I took my car to a local shop because of a oil leak coming from the head area on the drivers side toward the front of the car. The car seemed to be running just fine but felt like it was a little down on power lately. Shop has told me that is has been blown for a while now! You could actually feel the exhaust coming out of the gasket with your fingers while the car was idling!

So, I need some options on what to do to it while it is out without getting too crazy $$. I have already purchase the EVO 10mm head studs (thanks Sharky!) and have been thinking of doing rods but that gets pretty spendy! I was told that the guides are all done for and that I might need new valves too $$.

Car was run at 1.4 bar for the past 10K miles with an EPL tune and meth. Before that it was on a Proto tune for 20K miles. I am thinking that the studs just stretched out over time? They do have over 30K of abuse on them? There were no signs of detonation. Car has 55K on it now.

Sorry to here that. Call Betim at BBI for some options if your willing to ship your car out. My car is over there right now getting some big upgrades which i will start a thread to share my experience once the car is done. The BBI team is awsome, great to do business with and they will take care of you. Good luck.

That sucks!!! Does a head gasket job require a full cylinder removal and re-seal?

Wait a second, does the car have a blown exhaust gasket or a blown head gasket?

Two significantly different things, and significantly different $$ to fix.

BTW, I'm not sure what your goals are for the car, but just randomly deciding to do rods doesn't sound right.

The question is...what are your goals. Also another problem is how do you know if the rods are not already bent. I recall seeing S351 build and his car was running great and he decided to do a big build. When EVOMS opened up his motor, they saw the bent rods.

Can it ne determined if the rods are good without doing a full tear down? Your in there now, so you should at least find out if the rods are good.

Dgreen78,
Sorry to hear that. With your listed mods, your car should make very serious hp. Over many miles and high hp run it might stress the parts. Is yours all stock internal? It might be a good chance to open and beef engine up. GL.
BTW. What hp is your current set up?

do the internals and crank the boost to 2.0 bar!!! She'll really rip. There is a certain white TT on the board that has supposedly seen those levels on 24/20's and it was a total monster.

I would do rods if removing the heads. They can do it without taking the block apart through the cylinder.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues. I really sucks. I hope you can get it sorted out with minimal financial and technical issues.

Every time I see something like this, I'm reminded about how appreciative I am of GIAC and the fact that they resist tuning in that last 20-30 HP. Please do not take this as knock on any tuner. There are some very talented tuners on this board and they deserve respect and credit for their skills. I'm just seeing people push these engines harder and harder. Let's face it there are no secret tricks. Only A/F mixtures, timing and how agressive the tuner is willing to go.

This is the 2nd Meth car with issues in the last few months. The last incident resulted in an engine failure.

Ari... I have heard this many times but is this the correct way to change Rods?... surely the base Gasket would need replaced after Head is off... I'm just curious as my tuner would split it all down!!!

Sure why not? I'm no expert, but unless there is a reason to pull it apart, i would do as little as required to reach my goal.
