Short shifters

I broke the cable from the shifter to the transmission, so my TT is stuck in second gear.
While I have it torn apart I was thinking of going to an after market shifter, like the B&M short shifter.
Any ideas of what to do while the shifter is apart. What are your expereinces with short shifters?

Thanks

I recommend the OEM 997TT Short Shift Kit. It comes as an entire shift assembly, as is smoother then the B&M.

After some research, I also went with the OEM 997 SSK. No issues at all -- smooth and precise (wish I could say that about my driving too ).

I dont know why this seems acceptable to me for a 986 but not a 996tt, but I chopped the shifter on my boxster by a few inches. Because it uses OEM shift points and leverages, the shifting is precise and not notchy like many aftermarket units.

I tried B&M and B&M copy on two different porsche but hated that notchy feeling. When I was doing some console work, I decided to take a grinder to the OEM unit just to feel it. I loved the result.

Not necessarily -- I read a lot of good reviews of the B&Ms too. I just went with the 997 SSK since it was readily available at the dealer and they gave me a great deal. Since I'm still under CPO, I decided to go OEM.
