Reinventing My Turbo Through Cooperative Tuning (SG, IA, UM, EVO MS and GIAC)
Craig, gotta go with the new turbos. Don't settle for less than 1000hp!!
Seriously, the car is only driven on the street, right? So who cares about a little more lag? Just makes the kick in the *** that much bigger.

Craig,
thanks for letting us all in on your project. these threads are the funnest for me as i get to follow along with the project. best of luck with your updates and let us know how the internals faired with your existing setup.

My only hesitation is the add'l lag. What do you think?

I sure hope so. Sharky's non-x50 Tip is handling similar (if not greater) power levels. My x50 Tip is stronger and should be fine. If not, TTP will rebuild and reinforce my Tip. Sharky may also have a US rebuilder if that becomes necessary.

BTW, how many miles are currently on the engine?
I'll watch this unfold with interest. I stopped adding power because the shift from 1st to 2nd is almost painful now....
Good luck

Hey Craig,
I just got to this thread. Needless to say, I am very excited for you and your endeavor! Although I didn't get a chance to ride in that beast before, I am now even more looking forward to checking out the transformation. Good luck and can't wait to see the finished product!

Craig, why do you worry so much about lag when your car is obviously being configured for drag racing and highway bombing?
If you or your car was oriented for road racing or canyon carving, clearly you wouldn't be going towards this setup. More than 700hp is pretty much useless at most tracks with the exception of banked ovals. Even tuned GT2's running at 24H Nurburgring or Petit Le Mans are running about 700bhp.
1. I question the reliability of such a setup if you drive it hard on the racetrack, especially on hot days
2. If you are driving on the track, you are generally revving the motor in the upper RPM range, negating perceived lag
3. As you know, BIG HP at the top end wins straight line races, not fast spool up at the expense of castrated power.
Also, a lot of "lag" on bigger turbos can be dialed out through proper software tuning. Hopefully GIAC has figured out how to do this by now. Just screw everything and go after Chad's 1200hp setup!

I heard there is no difference between a X50 tip tranny and a non-X50 one, right? even the X50 is stronger I am not sure it can handle 800hp.
Anyway good luck with your experiment and keep us posted, as a tip owner I really want to know what is the maximum hp the TT can handle with reasonable reliability.

Craig are you scared you will be putting out too much power for the AWD system to handle? Does anyone even know the hp limit of the drivetrain?

Day One: I dropped off my car today at Speed Gallery. The project has commenced.
I also expanded the project a bit. Over the past 2.5 years, I have resisted modifying the body of my car, instead focusing on performance upgrades. I gave in today and ordered a Tech Art type II front bumper and a GT2 wing.
