Gray to Black interior conversion almost complete *Before & After*

My white 996 came with a full gray leather interior, but ideally a black interior would have been a heck of a lot better looking.

So after much $$$ and time, I found most of the OEM pieces needed to convert it to black. It took a while because I wanted everything in leather and had to be in great condition.

Interior came from a 2004 GT3 and the seats were from a 997 C2S. The seats don't have heat, electric back/fwd or bolster, but they are much lighter and more comfortable. I had to tap in the original wiring harness for the electric recliner and used my OEM seat belt clip so they would wire up the original harness.

I want to finish the dash and steering wheel when I find acceptable black leather replacements.

Before:

After:

I broke my turbo insignia when taking it off, so I just stuck with GT3 one.

Wow, it looks great. Will you keep the grey wheel, or go with black?

Looks great. A black alcantera steering wheel would complement nicely.

What are your plans for the dash?

Wow. Looks good. I never did like the gray, my C2 had a gray interior and just did not like it. Can you tape off the rest of the car and get black spray die in a can and spray the dash? I did it years back on a fine piece of American muscle. lol.

thanks, I might remove the dash and have the leather repair guys dye it, that seems the most economical...

They are from a 997/987 so they'd go with your seats. Make sure you can fit them thou. Make me a reasonable offer and I'm sure we can work something out.
thanks, but the 997 steering wheel won't fit...

Out of curiosity, what was the total cost?

(I know, you probably don't want to tally that... )

Thx

I think you got a deal for everything at 2k. I would have guessed much more. I like the two tone black interior with grey dash look. I put grey floor mats in my black interior for some contrast (and so I could see when my black phone, Ipod, sunglass, etc fell on the floor).

Looks great! When I was shopping for a Turbo, many of the white ones I encountered had gray interior. I didn't want to have to go through swapping interiors so I waited until one with black interior came along. Props to you for actually going through with the swap!

Couple questions:
1. On the lower part of your door panels, it appear the carpets are black. Even with full black interior, mine appear gray-ish. Is it just photography lighting or did Porsche change something in later production years?

2. On the subject of door panels, shouldn't there be speakers or did the GT3s not come with speakers on the door panels?

3. Would electric 997 seats be plug and play or would I still need to mess around with the wiring harness? I've been thinking of "upgrading" to 997 seats for the better looking switch gears and am wondering how complex the project would be.

Ditto on the price. Not sure about the interior, but I've been keeping an eye out for 997 seats. Most sellers are asking 2 - 3 times what the thread starter paid. I'd buy a pair for $750 in a heart beat and use my current seats to play Gran Turismo on the PS3

Those 997 seats really upgrade the interior more than I thought. I am also interested in the install. How hard was it to make them fit?
