Carrera GT Key Head- didn't come with code tag...
Bought a new Carrera GT key head from Sunset because my key head is not working (tried replacing the battery, no dice).
I understand new key heads come with a code tag attached used to program the car/key- this one did not...
Ideas on how I can obtain the key code? I can't imagine the Carrera GT keys don't come with codes for programming. Dealer was pretty clueless...

The little "pill" is that the immobilized picks up so you can start the car. You have to switch it from the old keyhead so you can start the car. Than you need to pogram the remote so you can open the doors and trunk. PM me if you want the ptogramming sequence and I'll look it up for you.
Can anyone confirm that they have bought a CGT key and it's included the code?
The attached should clear things up for you. I couldn't find the Carrera GT workshop manual for free but you can Google it up and get it for about $15, if you're really curious as to how it's done on that car.
Am in interpreting correctly that you CAN determine the key code for a new key without the key tag?

I think you are over thinking this. I converted to the 997 key head, by taking ALL of the guts out of the 996 head. There was no "code" needed as you are moving the parts that contain the "code". This is a really simple move, like 10 mins. Did you put the immobilize(er) "pill" in the new key? It will not start with it.

Yes and no.
But it's more complicated. There is the way the dealer does it and a way locksmiths do it. In your case, you need to swap the guts from the old key to the new 2 button housing. As the Carrera GT guts will not work.

I think the deal is , the way I understand it, that his remote stopped working so he thought he can kill 2 birds with one stone by getting the GT key with the guts.
Perfect- very helpful.
To update everyone- Sunset is ordering another key for me- hopefully this one comes with the tag...

A dealer charges a lot to program... Like 3 hours. My indy mechanic has the ability to program a key in 15 minutes, but he needs the key code and vehicle code to do it.
