If it is a part for a "Porsche" does that increase the price?
If it is a part for a "Porsche" does that increase the price?
This is a question I didn't pay much attention too until lately. I have been buying parts like pistons, valves etc. If I am having a part made and I tell the maker it is for a Porsche, then they want to see the part and they make it for a price.
If I tell them it is for a modified Honda and send them the part with no numbers on it then I receive the same part, same material, for alot less money.
I wonder if there is any connection as to why Porsche's depreciate so fast.
Could it be they are a little over priced to start?

Your above comment in my opinion is simply saying Lambo owner's are bigger suckers than Porsche owners. It also says they are both suckers to one degree or another.
When I say "manufacturer" I am not refering to the auto maker. I am refering to after market makers. However, my question regarding "depreciation" refers to the auto maker.
Just some food for thought.

I think its stupid when people do that. I was having a set of rims mounted and they gave me a quote over the phone of 115. When I showed up and they saw I had HRE rims hes like atleast 300 bux. Im like why is that, he said cause you have the money to pay it.

A few yrs ago, I had a nice '95 968, and it somehow had a few bolts missing from the rear hatch. I took a trip to a local Porsche service company, ordered 4 bolts, and returned a couple of weeks later to pick up. I went to the parts counter and the guy said "your bolt order's in, $6". I got out my wallet and he presents me with a bill for $24. I said "I thought you just said SIX DOLLARS." He said "uh, yeah, that's PER BOLT."
Now when I need a bolt, I go to an industrial hardware company nearby.

Chad, thought about telling the manufacturer maching the parts for you that it's for another make? that would probably save you thousands over the course of your build!
I, also, dread it when they ask what kind of car it is when I call somewhere for an estimate since alot of places have some kind of Porsche surcharge they like to add. Case in point, a friend of mine gets his car detailed at a place in town and pays 175 for a full detail, his is a Ford Explorer, larger car than mine. I call up the same shop and get quoted $250 for the same kinda detail, yet I have a much smaller car...

I have noticed alot of shop have the ferrari or porsche tax added onto there bills. Its silly to do that cause they know your doing it and it just discourages them from coming back to you.

I learned that not too long ago.
I used the same technique when I got my body parts painted.
When I stated calling for quotes they gave me around $600 to $800 to get my PORSCHE wing painted.
I thought that was way too high - during my next call I said its for a Civic. I got the paint job for $100.
