Porsche battery charger with cigarette lighter adapter??

I just purchased a Porsche trickle charger on the for sale forum. I was expecting to see a red and black clamp for the battery but instead there is a cigarette lighter adapter at the end. I have never used one of these before... are they safe and reliable? Do I just plug it in and leave the window cracked open so the cord can run outside or is there a special place where this needs to hook up?

Sorry, this seems so easy but I just dont want to mess anything up. I have an 04 TT Cab and it is a Porsche branded charger. Very long cord as well.

Thanks for the help in advance,
Bryan

The Porsche battery maintainer is a Tequipment item and you can get them from any dealer and perhaps a few board sponsors that carry Tequipment stuff or you might find them new/used on eBay but be careful of a knockoff

Chuck, don't I feel stupid. I can rebuild a motor but can't seem to look at the Porsche website to find out if this is OK to use. Thanks for the help... Looks like I am good to go.

No need..these cars are expensive and the electrical systems can be very touchy (I'm being polite)....don't blame you a bit for wanting to hear from someone who has used one...many members have them and have used them safely....

I have the Porsche one that I got with my car from the previous owner who's been using it for a while. I used it over the winter and it worked great.

Thanks again for the replies.

Question, Has anyone ever put a cigarette lighter adapter on their battery that allowed this charger to plug into that same socket? Would seem it may make it a little cleaner and you could have it come out in the boot area instead of having to lift the plastic battery cover. Thoughts?

I have a Battery Tender Junior. It has a quick disconnect for either a cigarette adapter (what I use) or ring terminals that you can bolt to your battery. Google it and see if it's for you. Being a non-Porsche branded item, they're not expensive at all. And they're made in the USA.

Michael.

I use the Porsche cig lighter charger for 2 years now. Just plug it in and let it go out the bottom of the door. Lock it, set the alarm, and don't worry. I also have a motorcycle battery in my car and even in the cold it still holds OK.
