Best TT Air Filter

What is considered to be the best non OEM TT airfilter, still BMC or is there something new and better on the market ?

Are you assuming that the best filter cannot be the OEM filter?

Oh, got it. You must be over 600hp in that case.

(Here's a hint: 'all the best tuners' run aftermarket air filters because it is easy money to sell them to consumers...and not all of the best run non-OE on every engine.)

But hey, lets not stop commerce...carry on.

I installed a BMC yesterday, rinsed with hot water prior to remove some of the oil. Dried thoroughly.

I have the bmg, or it may be k& n filter but I'm thinking of going to OEM. Is there anything wrong with the OEM filter for applications running 550-600? Does it not flow well enough?

from AMS at 650 rwhp:

removing the stock air filter and running it open made negligible difference.
IMO (and from testing), an aftermarket filter is a great way to waste 100+ bucks and increase leakdown over time from letting more dirt into your engine. Go stock and don't look back, it's got massive surface area and isn't a restriction whatsoever.

If you absolutely refuse to have the best filter in there and insist on aftermarket, go with the BMC over K&N as they are better made.

My BMC arrived today and I'm going to replace the K&N (it was already installed on my car when I bought it) for the TX Mile.
However, do I need to rinse it first???
I saw it mentioned and never thought about it before. My car is well over 600hp and I don't want any MAF problems while in Goliad.
Let me know. I'm installing tomorrow. Thanks!

Hey John, How do you like the dual snorkel? Did you feel more power over the stock? My car only has the below in my sig line. I have heard good things about the stock air filter since it is dry, but washing the K&N and the BMC seem to be a good idea with getting rid of a lot of the oil and saving the MAF.

If you drive in dusty environment and want good compromise between performance and clean intake air yes it can be. If you want few horses more and save money + protect the trees the answer is no. Anything over 500bhp crank OEM paper filter becomes the bottleneck.

...another one of these threads...

If you hate your engine...put in an aftermarket filter. I can't believe with all the air filter studies out there, people still believe you get better performance and filtration with an aftermarket filter. And then factor in the oil (which without it, these aftermarket filters don't filter anything). If they were so much better, why didn't the factory put them in? Sorry, not slamming, but I dyno'd my car one day, back to back, with K&N, stock, and NO filter and saw a negligable difference in power between the 3. I would rather have maximum filtration than 4 more whp. Anyone that says they notice a difference in performance by changing their air filter is full of ....I trust the Porsche engineers more than the guys at the performance shop trying to make a buck.

Chill out mate. "if you hate your engine put in an aftermarket filter". Interesting saying. But where exactly is rational behind it? I live in normal "non desert" environment. So I should be concerned about micro dust entering my combustion chamber? Hm I wonder what happens to small micro dust particles there? Well let me tell you they get vaporised. We are not talking sand mate but micro dust either way. That's why K&N guarantee their filters won't cause any engine damage for 1 million miles. .

I agree that the evidence suggests that, for the 996TT, the OEM paper filter is fine... and introducing an oiled cotton filter has been known to cause MAF issues that the stock filter does not.

That said, I was intrigued to see that Porsche went with what appears to be dual BMC cone filters in a CF airbox for the 997 GT3 RS 4.0.
