996 TT - Best Turbo for Street Use?

Hi,

I would like upgrade the stock 996 turbos (k16).

What are the best kit turbos (with direct replacement) for street use?

Regards,
Vitor S.

what do you mean by direct replacement? you want to stay with K16 based turbo's?

EPL and Vivid both sell K16/16g based kits.
UMW sells K16/K24 based kits
and I would bet Evoms, Proto, Switzer have something to match.

lots of choices. If you are undecided right now but want more power, get yourself a good exhaust and a tune and you will enjoy the power. In the meantime you can research here and other forums to learn about what you would want.

Thanks,

you mean without going to an aftermarket exhaust, stronger clutch, turbo intake piping, DV's, etc? Not a good idea. If you can't replace turbos as part of a complete kit, then I recommend you save up the money and do it right. Exhaust should be your first upgrade if you barely have enough money. A good 2.5k-4k exhaust will help you in many ways.

soloracer996TT is infamous around these parts
I have the AMD Billett K16's on my car but I agree with Prsche951 in that you should consider the other supporting mods as well. The exhaust would be a good place to start and benefit your current turbos. Get an ECU flash at the same time and you might find that is all you need.

As has been said, any turbo upgrade will require supporting mods to take advantage of the increase. Alpha 28's seem to be all the rage, depending on your HP desires, and the K24/18g upgrade is still a very respectable and cost effective upgrade.

Whats your budget?

k16/16g(now available in billet i beleive) is the cheapest option at under 1500$ for the upgrade, with out tune (EPL does alot of these)

UMW has some cool lower cost Hybrids and Tunes to match that dont break the bank.
k16/k24 k16/k26 turbos and the likes.

the other hybrids k16 billets and Tial variants are in the 5-6k range for an all new turbo without tune. (Switzer has a very nice setup of Streetable Tial Turbos and tuning to match)

it depends on what kind of driving your wanting to do and your goals and current mods.

if you have exhaust and a tune already with a tuner who sells turbos he would be able to help you out with the new turbo purchase and updated tune.

garret and alpha turbos are essentially the same Thing they are both made by Tial the alpha turbos use garret parts.

this is a K16/tial hybrid that uses a garret Alpha 28 Compressor setup (no i didn't get specific cause there are different ones out there depending on who you order from.

The best turbo for street use (best combo of low lag responsiveness and top end pull) is the Tial Alpha 28. A much lower cost alternative (with less top end) is next the billet K16 or and after that the K16/16g.
