Question Window Regulator

My drivers side window has stopped working

It makes a grinding noise, so i'm guessing the motor itself is still ok

How long should I expect to spend replacing the regulator?

Are there any other parts that need changing whilst i'm at it? - door seals/membranes, etc?

Smile Window Regulator Replacement - DIY

OK guys,

I finally got around to replacing my broken window regulator

It took me about 2 hours from start to finish as I work pretty slowly......I reckon if you were really going for it you could easily knock at least 30 minutes off my time

Here's a link to the DIY I followed......I thought I'd post the link here as it's a far better write up than I could have done

Anyway, that's enough talking, here's the link.......

Thanks for the update - good to know it's not that hard to handle when it happens.

No worries, and yeah it's not hard at all

The most difficult bit is removing interior trim clips without holding your breath and closing your eyes whilst waiting for something to snap

I always have a horrible feeling when working on interior trim that i'm going to snap the clips and tabs when I try to remove them

No dramas today though, plain sailing all the way

It's definitely a straight forward job

I put it off for a while, but now it's done I know I should have done it much sooner, it's no problem to do and you don't need any special tools or skills

When I took my old one out I found that the 'wire rope' that rolls through the rollers had just snapped in half

The motor was still working, which meant when I tried operating the window the motor would pull the wire inside it and get all tangled up.......difficult to explain, but you'll see what I mean when you get in there

I'm attempting to do this today and noticed that the door pull is a single piece as opposed to the pictures that show one piece around the door release handle and one piece for the pull. I have the carbon fiber door pulls. I am trying to do this gently so that I don't damage the carbon fiber, is there a way to pop this off easily that anyone knows?

TIA

Actually, it was just that I had to pull on it and release the clips. There were 5 clips on the door pull alone, so it is on there pretty good. If it was just plastic, i would have just pulled really hard, but since it was the carbon fiber, i wanted to be extra careful.

For anyone else with a 2001 like myself, there are also 2 screws behind the speaker grille that hold the door panel on. You have to remove the little "Porsche" emblem on the speaker grille (glued on) and behind that is a allen screw, remove that and the grille comes off. Then pull out the 2 phillips screws that are about 2.5" long and the panel comes the whole way off. That took me a little while to figure out as well as the Boxster doesn't seem to have that.

Now that I have it done, is there a way to adjust the amount of drop that the window does? THe new regulator only drops it about 1/4", just enough to get under the window frame. On the other side, it drops a good 1/2" or so. I tried pushing the window down slightly thinking that maybe the window was getting stuck, but it is solid. I just wish it would give a little more clearance.

I did the reset procedure of holding the window closed and open for 5 seconds as well. Didn't seem to change it.
