hard clutch pedal

my clutch pedal use to get hard after a few days sitting,

but the slave is not leaking. how long before it goes?

what else can be the cause?
maybe I should just do the gt2 mod!

If you can change now do it... it won't get any better. The accumulator is normally the problem but it also makes sense to change the slave cylinder if you can (it makes it harder and is about $500 more expensive).

The accumulator actually doesn't leak... it will leak out of your front resivoir and spill to the ground where the hole allows for that area to drain. It is also a PIA to clean up once it leaks... ask me how I know. They go out at all different times and mileage. My car had 8,000 miles when it went out but it wasn't driven a lot which may have contributed to it's demise. I replaced both myself in about 4 hours total. Like building a boat in a glass bottle with your eyes closed. Also make sure you have the right tools prior to starting if this is an option for you.

Best of luck with the fix,
Bryan

My 996 Turbo is extremely stiff after sitting a few days, which happens a lot (single dad with kids and my STI is the kid car). It may be normal.

My pedal was stiff after the car sat for about 6 days. Then, after sitting another 6 days it was soft as butter. I dunno...maybe nothing...maybe the accumulator (original) finally taking a crap. My slave was already changed a few months ago so I actually hope the accumulator fails on my car as I am still under warranty. Free replacement. :-)

I had the same problem, changing the slave and accumulator fixed it.

Overflow of the reservoir and hard to press the clutch until the engine was started.

Ditto for me and my 03. Pedal was hard to press after car sat overnight. Then a few weeks later signs of clutch fluid leaking from reservior under panel under front trunk lid. Dealer replaced both accumulator and clutch slave cylinder (under CPO warranty!) and clutch easy to press and all is well again.

Sincerely,

Macster.
